COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Much of the history of Hopothermia is lost to the mists of time. We know that the windswept lone brewer dreamt of a Double IPA so bold and packed full of hop flavor that it could keep the wild wolves from the door of his remote cabin. We know he was able to converse with the creatures of the woods—except for the bears who slept through the cold winter, and the mink, who were just really super rude. And we know he skillfully crafted a beer that became the stuff of legend.

There are strange brews made where glaciers cascade
By the brewers who know no bounds.
For they stuff in the hops ’til the temperature drops
And then call for a few more rounds.
In Alaska, it seems, every brewer dreams
of a bold Double IPA.
Hopothermia’s the beer, in the Last Frontier
That will keep the wild wolves at bay.

Bottle BEST BY 072717. Sweet nose fills the room with citrus, hops, bright candy, touch resin, drop of medicine, something like vanilla/cake frosting. Pour very slightly hazy orange-amber but bright and fully-carbonated, large and rocky beige head. Taste medium-bitter but loaded with floral hop juice, strong alcohol that warms and eventually singes, sugar, citrus, candy. Bit of resin, bit of earth, clean bitterness a bit breadier but low-key lasts in the aftertaste. Dense and full, creamy-smooth throughout, fat body but not heavy, with wonderful accents coming up over time -- peach and especially mango to take me by surprise by the end. Strong but slightly indistinct malt with decent depth. A different kind of IPA, leans rather toward the Old Ale feel of class and permanence (though with an obviously different flavor profile). Pours a darker amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is floral hops with caramel malts and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is all floral hops up front. Finishes with a sweetness from the malts and a slight warming.

12 ounce bottle. Not sure why this text is italicized? Clear dark amber, large foamy white head, good retention. Aroma of pine, candied citrus, lemon, pale malt. The taste is grapefruit, lemon, pine, pale malt. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness.

Pours a deep golden orange from bottle. Smells strongly of musty, old forest pine. Unfortunately, tastes like it too. Not the best double IPA. Come on Alaska... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tried during a beer tasting on an Alaskan cruise. Poured rich tangerine color with thick head. Aroma/taste: citrusy and floral scent, with a piny and grapefruit zesty flavor followed by a satisfying mouth numbing bitterness.

Shared 12 oz. bottle. Clear pale amber, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, citrus, floral notes. Taste is caramel, citrus, pine, floral notes, alcohol, with the emphasis less on the hops and more on the sweet malt and alcohol.

Aroma: tons of hoppy citrus, fragrant from 2 feet away; Appearance: clear amber pour with fluffy offwhite head that lingers; Taste: not as good as aroma; hoppy and malty with unpleasant finish; Palate: medium body with long malty finish; Overall: disappointing. Would not get again.

Pours deep golden orange. Great hop and floral character. Great mix of bitter hops and malt backbone. One of my new favorite beers. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Amber color out of the bottle with a short foamy khaki colored head. Big sweet hop fruity nose. This has lots of the pinching citrus zest hop characteristics with apricot and tropical fruit sweetness, all over a firm malty backbone. The ABV is well hidden in this easy drinking IIPA.
