5 oz. pour, on tap at HopCat Minneapolis. Consumed on 12-14-17. 2012 edition (five years of age). Nice, maroon, mahogany. Small amount of beige head. Juicy, malty, caramel aroma. A bit musty. Sweet but sophisticated taste. Woody and herbal. Caramel. Very mellow flavors. Not exactly my kind of beer but enjoyable. Full body. Smooth in the palate. Nice, sophisticated, complex change of pace. 22.214.171.124.14=>3.5 slowrunner77 (13603) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 26, 2014
"a nice beer, sweetened with birch syrup ala perserverance ale (and life and limb). without the honey that was also present in perserverance, this beer is not AS sweet, though still leaning that way as a malt-heavy style with syrup added. but it’s not overdone, and you get the sense that under the syrup addition, which was quite nice in the nose and flavor, that this would make a damn fine doppelbock on it’s own. well done - a nice treat." fitwitchik (433) - Ohio, USA - AUG 17, 2014
Poured from a bomber purchased last year into an Alaskan Brewery Pilot Series Pint glass purchased from Alaskan Brewery a reddish copper with minimal head.
Aroma sugared malt slight birch.
Flavor is subtle grassy caramel. Reminds me of a caramel with slight lemon like citrus.
This is the second time to have this brew the first being over a year ago which I thought was overly tart almost thin. Age definitely gelled the essence of this brew. A thick luscious brew. cernjoh (188) - Ohio, USA - AUG 17, 2014
Poured from a bottle purchased in May of 2013. Tasted August 17, 2014. Aroma is of caramel and birch. Appearance is slight cloudy golden orange with a one finger light tan head that dissipates rapidly. Taste is of a rich caramel with a slight birch and grass (hop) presence. A very good balance of flavors. Palate is smooth and slightly viscous with a good level of carbonation. This aged well and is one of those beers that gets much better with age. An excellent beer worth buying and sitting on about a year or so. Cheers! bu11zeye (13288) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - JUN 26, 2014

Alaskan needs to stop making bocks, all of them are so bad .. . some sweet maple and dirty brown gravy powder .. . empty mouth .. . the label is the best thing about this beer .. . . Found 4 unopened beers under my bed, so clearly I have my shit together. AmEricanbrew (7080) - Same Trailer, Different Park, Louisiana, USA - AUG 22, 2013
