This beer pours a dark brown color with a tinge of red around the edges, and a medium foamy tan head that diminishes gradually. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, pine and hops. Medium-bodied with flavors of roast malt, resiny hops and coffee. The finish is roasty coffee and malt up front with a lingering piney hops aftertaste. Good beer all around. high_on_hops (809) - Burlingame, California, USA - FEB 20, 2015
Pours a solid black with a tan head and lacing. It has a rich aroma of piney hops, some floral notes, and toast and coffee. The flavor is toasty malt up front with a hoppy backbone and slightly chocolate, bitter finish with a bit of chalkiness over a medium-heavy body.

From bottle to tulip. Slight roast and perfume hop. Black with tan head. Taste is cocoa and slight citrus. Chalky aspects. A little milk as it warmed. mikedR (1561) - Gilbert, Arizona, USA - FEB 12, 2015
Quite nice. Above average, but not my favorite of this style (which is one of my all time favorites). Everything is going on here in the right ways, but I want a bit more roastiness in the malts. jazz88 (2676) - San Francisco, California, USA - FEB 10, 2015
Bottle. A dark brown color with a lush tan head. A sweet chocolate and dark fruit aroma with a strong malty finish. The hops are subordinate in this as the imperial porter flavors and aroma take charge.

Bottle: Poured a pitch black with a light brown creamy head. The aroma is nice hops with roasted malts. Taste is an edgy hops bitter, little spice, and roasted maltiness. drjay44 (3680) - Salida, Colorado, USA - FEB 4, 2015
651 ml. bottle. 7.7% ABV per the label. Pours a medium thick, well retained, light beige head, with some lacing, over a clear brown (SRM 25) body......nose is pine, resin, citrus peel, light cocoa, no esters, balance to the hops......taste is pine, resin, grapefruit peel, licorice, pineapple, all from the hops, light cocoa, very light chocolate, wisps of coffee, from the malts, no esters, balance to the hops, with a moderate bitter finish.....mouth feel, medium body, slightly sticky, slight alcohol warmth carbonation makes moderate creaminess. This is a pleasant easy drinking Black I/DIPA. It is light on the roasted malt side with minimal coffee, light chocolate from the malts, with the result being too hop dominated. It could use more dark roasted malts to better meet this delightful style. BJCP 6/3/13/4/6 furthur (1166) - Eagle River, Alaska, USA - JAN 26, 2015
Bottle, black body, decent almond colored head, nice lace. Aroma is spruce and mango, pineapple, toasted barley, caramel. Taste is light, tropical fruit, citrus rind, spruce, candy sugar. Finish is citrus rind bitter. Palate is light, carbonation fine, and adequate. Not getting any toasty flavor here at all. If I closed my eyes, I’d call this a DIPA. maxwelldeux (4374) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - JAN 16, 2015
Bottle. Pours a very dark brown color with a moderate tan head on there. Nose has a really pleasant mix of roastiness with floral hop notes coming off it. Taste is roasty and bitter, but leans more to the bitter side of things. It remains remarkably light on the palate, though. Me gusta. BVery (10327) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - JAN 13, 2015
Tap at Busters. Dark pour with reddish highlights. Dense frothy cream colored head. Citrus hop nose with a bit of roast underneath. More hoppy IPA than roasty. Very well done, this is a standout in its style.
