Clear ruby black color/ viscous tan head. Nice dusty black malt, caramel, chocolate, pine sap aromas. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body. Very good mesh of dry black malts, sweet caramel, pine sap, tropical fruit flavors. Enjoyed the draft version a little more than the bottled.

The 2009 Great Alaska Beer and Barleywine fest. Dark brown with a tan head. Nice piney and floral hop aroma with roasty malts. Smooth medium body. Strong floral and pine hop flavors riding a caramel sweet and roasty malt base brew. Great mix of caramel, roast and hop flavors here. Alaskan needs to bottle this !
Coffee smell takes over this beer. Taste is coffee too. Little hops are present in this beer. Sits well on the palate with little hop presentation. Black as night with a nice tan head that stays with the beer for a while. Very well developed beer. Johnsense (1753) - - AUG 13, 2015
Black pour with a massive head. Dark chocolate, Pine, slightly woody. Balanced (which is to say not overly hoppy). Medium body kathouse (1940) - LAS VEGAS, Nevada, USA - JUL 8, 2015
Deep and dark with a nice cream head. Aroma of cola with a mild hop. Bitterness is smooth. Chocolate and a light pine flavor. It’s not the hoppiest of IPA’s, but very nice mouthfeel. AirForceHops (7793) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - JUL 5, 2015
650 ml bottle purchased at Specs in Austin, TX. Bottle date of : 04 05 15. Deep black pour with massive head retention that coats the snifter. Aroma some bold roasted notes with a light pine. Fox13riderco (14) - Sacramento, California, USA - JUN 3, 2015
Body is full with a stout- like density and creamy mouthfeel. Yeah baby, That’s what I’m talking about right here!
The malts have a deep roasted character with some smooth chocolate notes that ends with a nice lingering pine bitterness that ends with the chocolate flavor coming back around to the taste buds. Very well crafted! I think this scores top in style for my own palate.
The beer is a very musky thicker IPA hints the black IPA but overall a good beer

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2015 Brown black pour. Nose of dank pine/citrus and light roasted malt/cocoa. Flavor is cola and roasted malt with sticky pine/citrus bitterness. Some graininess. Pretty nice. Patrickctenchi (6730) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - MAY 8, 2015
Pours black, with a thick, creamy tan head.
Caramel, chocolate, cola aroma.
Taste is bitter, heavy dark chocolate malt, roasty...licorice, coffee.
Sweet, followed by a long, resiny bitter.

Dark brown with a bubbly beige head. Aroma of chocolate, roast, a hint of spice, and tree bark. Taste is lots of roasted malts and bitter chocolate. Medium bodied. Decent, but a bit one dimensional. jake65 (4000) - Meridian, Idaho, USA - MAR 19, 2015
Bottle from the co-op. A dark brown pour, as expected, with a thick creamy tan head. Heavy roast in the nose along with citrus and pine. The roast is sharp and defined in the taste... pine and citrus ride along to keep the edges smooth. Still the hops to roast flavors get a little separated. Only a minor detriment. There is a faint off flavor that I can’t pinpoint, but associate with chalk and alcohol. Overall a good CDA. swesson (470) - Highlands Ranch, Colorado, USA - MAR 7, 2015
From a bomber. Pours a dark brownish red. Makes a thick tan head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is of roasted barley and alcohol. Tastes of coffee and a bit medicinal. Not a big favorite.
