A native plant of North America, pumpkins were first used in beer in colonial America as a substitute for hard-to-find malt, and none other than the father of our country George Washington had a highly touted recipe. This imperial porter pumpkin beer combines the robust, full-bodied style of a porter with a, frankly, crazy amount of pumpkin.

Bomber, thanks brenn79. Aroma is roasty, pumpkin pie spices, raisins, molasses, chocolate. Pours an extremely dark brown, near black, with red highlights; has a beige head that falls fairly fast. Taste is sweet, spicy and savory. Has a licorice component to the flavor. Mouthfeel is a little oily, a little creamy; body is medium to full. Excellent pumpkin beer, exceeding my expectations. Addendum: I had to up my aroma score a point. It really opens up after a bit. A nice (above average) meaty pumpkin pie aroma, similar to Pumking, comes out after warming up a bit.

2011 bottle. Pours dark brown. Molasses, vegetal, allspice nose. Light smokiness and Maynard reaction flavor. Light bottle low carbonation.

Bottle from Beltramo’s in Menlo Park, CA. Aroma is chocolate brownies with pumpkin spice. Taste is mild chocolate with the pumpkin spice bitterness coming on a little too strong. Do pumpkins even grown in Alaska?

Bottle shared at the Cafe Abseits tasting during the Bamberg Excursion. Cheers to Kenny. Pours deep brown with a creamy tan head. Good stuff, definitely some autumnal spices present, light cocoa, toasted bread. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with further pumpkin and spices, mild roast and cocoa. Nice depth and balance.

12oz bottle from a year ago. Opaque, deep brown tone w/a quick, tan foamstand. Nice roasty sweet vegetal nose with chocolate hints. Solid pumpkin & spices on the palate. Full body and medium+ carbonation.

Bottle. Black pour with tan head. In spite of the claim of there being a crazy amount of pumpkin in this beer (perhaps it has faded somewhat since purchase), I found it to be more akin to a rich chocolatey porter with a hint of pumpkin in the finish. This is way more my style than the alternative.

Bottle. On the higher end of pumpkin beers for me. Big chocolate and coffee flavors dominate with subtle pumpkin notes. A great desert beer that isn't overly spiced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Originally rated on 9/23/14.Clear dark brown colored ale with a minimal ring of tan colored head. Aromas of strong pumpkin spices and roasted coffee. Starts out sweet and spicy with a strong flavor of pumpkin spice. Mostly spice (nutmeg allspice, ect) in taste, flavor doesn’t develop much from there, almost chemical like. Overall i thought i would like it better, its was just ’off’.

Very dark pour with clingy head. Smells fantastic. Really like the thickness and richness of the protest mixed with the slightly sweet pumpkin taste

12 oz. bottle. Poured a dark brown with a thin beige head. Taste of pumpkin, nutmeg, roasted malts, and chocolate. Average carbonation, medium body. A superb pumpkin porter!
