3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tasted on 1/6/13 from a capped 22oz bomber bottle purchased quite some time ago at Sun Devil. Pours opaque, nearly black dark brown with a very thick tan head that slowly recedes to messy, thick lace. The nose is more smoke than anything else, with plenty of dark chocolate and coffee malt to back everything up. The flavor is the same, with the smoke really dominant up front, with tons of roasted malt and a touch of added vanilla on the back of the palate. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long smoked, bitter roasted, and light touch of vanilla sweet finish. This beer is holding up very well, and having had it several times in the past, it is still an accurate reflection of what this beer is and can be.

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2017 Beer tasting @ fillepolo 27/12-17. Bottle from Systembolaget. Roasted malty with a lot of smoke, also charcuterie. Body is medium, the finish is roasted and smokey. Marko (6275) - Split / Zagreb, CROATIA - DEC 26, 2017
Bottle, 2013, way back when bought at Pivoteka. Almost black reddish body with a small greyish tan head. Malty, strong smoked aroma, bit dusty. Strong pršut really notes. Smoked, wind-dried ham. The lovely pršut-like smokeyness gives way to light roast, enormous really, but the body is medium at best, and there are some light dusty/oxidized notes. Light bitterish touches. Just too lean bodied which is a sad thing as the aromatics are all there. I understand why a lot of people love it but it's not the best smoked I've had so far... radioseer (300) - Virginia, USA - DEC 25, 2017
Wow, have not done this in a while. Smoke flavor in the aftertaste. Sweet and pleasantly bitter.

0,65 l bottle, 2013 vintage. Pours almost pitch black with a finger of quickly dissipating tan head. Aroma is gentle smoky - a bit of ham, not overpowering, along with plenty cocoa, some chocolate, coffee, dried fruit and roast malt aromas one would expect from a porter. There's also a gentle hop twist to it, earthy and flowery. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter. Finish is long, aromas and flavors slowly give way to pleasant bitterness. Beer leaves pleasant roast and cocoa flavor in the mouth. Quite complex and rich beer, well balanced and surprisingly very easy drinker for smoked beer. arfn (26) - SWEDEN - DEC 17, 2017
UPDATED: DEC 17, 2017 2012 vintage från systembolaget. Luktar väldigt mycket rök, men ingen behaglig rökdoft. Kändes väldigt snål i smaken. Vet inte om smaken har något att göra med att den hade gått över sin peak. sawbuck (778) - Round Lake, Illinois, USA - DEC 16, 2017
UPDATED: DEC 16, 2017 Nice smokey aroma , some mesquite. Ebony color. Sweet upfront with smokey wood in the background. Hint of spices and toffee. Smooth finish. Fules (1423) - Gyöngyös, HUNGARY - DEC 13, 2017
Közepes, tartós bézs hab, fekete szín. Kávés, csokis, kakaós illat, határozott füstös vonással. Füstös, kávés, csokis, kissé kakaóporos ízek. Könnyű, enyhén szénsavas, közepesen keserű. Finom, jól összerakott sör, bár lehetne egy picit testesebb.

Pours midnight black with tan head. Scent is cocoa and smoke. Taste is coffee, cream, dark chocolate, and more smoke. Heavy body. Crisp coffee finish. Good beer. Maybe Alaskan’s best.
