On tap at the brewpub. Lightly hazy copper pour with thin white head. Aroma is quite woody, fruity, nutty, woody, light mushroom notes. Taste is sweet and slightly boozy, nutty, malty flavors, a tad bland. Palate is med bodied, light carbonation. Very average.

On tap at the brewpub. Hazy copper with a small ring of white foam leaving little lacing. Aroma is mild with toasted malts, smoked notes, hints burnt caramel, spicy notes and herbal presence. Taste is not really sweet and the maple sap doesn’t play the front role here, there’s again toasted malts, the spiciness is a bit more present than in the aroma, herbal notes, hints of smoke and mineral notes. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Toasty finish with subtles notes of maple and smoke. Good thing with this beer is that it’s never too sweet - compared to most beers that use maple syrup so maple sap seems like a good idea - but the malt depth is a bit disappointing for an Albion creation.

(Rating #4039)

My Bottom Line :
Maple sap, lightly toasted and smoked malts coalesce with spicy hops in this highly clever Québécois ale.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A veil of foam tops the clear copper.
-Straight wood flavors also appear, surely from both maple sap and smoked malts.
-Drinkability is rather high. The soft prickling and lean maple sweetness never get close to being heavy.
-Smoke is subtle throughout. Don’t expect a Rauchbier here. It’s a creative beer that just doesn’t fit any RBeer category.
-Looking forward to next spring to try a new batch of this brew!
