On tap at the brewpub. Clear amber pour with creamy slab of white head. Aroma is near perfect, so nice and smoky, rich yet clean and not cloying, very reminiscent of Schlenkerla Marzen. Taste is smoky, really well rounded and balanced smoky flavor, light meaty notes, fresh grain. Palate is light-med bodied, smooth with med carbonation. Very good stuff, one of my favorites all day.

(Rating #6085)

On tap at l’Albion. Pours dark amber with very low off-white head. Aroma is of smoke, smoked ham. Taste is of smoke, smoked meat, some malt. Palate: Medium body. Very soft carbonation. Overall: Smoky. The smoke hides possible other features to me. I’m not a big fan of that kind of beer. Still decent.

On tap @ L’Albion. Slightly hazy golden/amber with a small white head and little lacing. Aroma is of smoked ham, caramel and light spiciness. Taste is also of smoked ham, caramel notes, light acidity touch and light spiciness. Medium body. Moderate/medium carbonation. Moderate smoky finish. Not a bad beer at all, but it doesn’t have the malt depth or the incredible mouthfeel of most of their beer. Unidimensional, but still tasty.

UPDATED: DEC 19, 2015 My Bottom Line :
Wooden smoke greets light citrus in this Rauchbier’s lusciously silky body, finishing in a dryish and lightly bitter splash.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A white sheet of foam graces the gleaming copper.
-Light caramel also adds to the flavor profile.
-This might not be the most memorable smoked beer, but it is very pleasant and impeccably rendered.
-The delicate hop character in the finish is herbal and spicy.
-This is absolutely perfect for their "ragoût de pattes" dish!.

On tap at the brewpub.
