on tap and from cask on the premises. unclear medium dark copper with a small off-white cap offering minimal retention and lacing. toasted fruity specialty maltiness, peppery berries, earthy and leafy nobleness - lightly sulfuric; christmas oranges, spices. moderate carbonation, light body - oily, assertive yet never unbalanced earthy-spicy finish. this best bitter rocks. cask is sublime.. much enjoyed!

On tap at l’Albion. Pours dark amber with low beige head. Some lacing. Aroma is of malt, vegetal stuff. Taste is of malt, fruits, caramel, sugar. Palate: Medium body, soft carbonation. Overall: I would not chug a good ol’ dimpled mug of this. Still good and tasty.

On tap @ L’Albion. Hazy amber with a medium off-white head. Aroma is mild with raisins, earthy/mineral notes, light toaste malt and grassy hops. Taste is of caramel, toasted malt, raisins, earthy spiciness and very light bitterness. Light body, but never watery. Moderate carbonation. Fluffy mouthfeel. Mild lingering earthy finish. Quite tasty with a great mouthfeel (as usual for l’Albion). Quite drinkable, but not as much as their Bitter... maybe this rating suffer from the comparison with their Bitter (which might be the most quaffable beer I have ever had) on cask I had just before. I will revisit.

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2015 My Bottom Line:
Crafty leafy hops and orange-y angles adhere to slender caramelized and toasted malts in this harmonious and very drinkable Best Bitter.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam covers the hazy amber, lacing all the way down the pint.
-The hop bitterness is also leafy, a tad spicy, and leveled.
-Almonds appear here and there from the very well extracted malt flavors.
-Drinkability is very high, nearly as high as their regular Bitter’s.
-When this is on cask, it’s marvellous (anything they serve from the hand-pump tends to be superb anyway).

On cask and on tap at the brewpub.

Cask. Lovely copper amber pour with thick creamy head. You can feel Albion’s signature caramel malts but the hop presence makes it a distinctive beer from the regular line up. Flavor is a balance between the caramel malts and the grassy hops. Strong point is definitly the palate, full and pillowy mouthfeel. Soft carbonation without being flat and watery, a nice feat in cask beers. One of the best cask I’ve had.

A copper amber ale with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, a smooth caramel malt with herbal hops and mineral notes, a bit murky and earthy. In mouth, a nice roasted biscuit malt with nice herbal British hops, nutty, light coffee, very nice. On tap at brewpub, Dec. 26 2011.
