9th Annual San Diego Strong Ale Fest. Clear orange/yellow pour with big head. Musty sweet malt aroma, maybe a touch of tang. Sweet malty and fruity flavors, a bit more of that twang. Sweet finish, a bit too swet for the lighter body of the beer.

9th Annual San Diego Strong Ale Fest: Clear golden amber color with a huge off-white head. Aroma of sweet malt, raisins, and paper/dust. Big sweet start to the flavor. Bitter finish from the peppery alcohol. Clean but not sweet enough after the start. Body a little thin. Some lemon notes.

Tasted at the 2005 Pizza Port Strong Ale Fest. Medium gold color. Small head. Aroma is very mild, malty, fruity and estery. Medium bodied dopplebock. Malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. Very smooth. Mildly spicy hops. Nice balance. Doesn’t have a lot of the huge malt character one would expect in a dopplebock, but a nice drinkable beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet.
