January 20th, 2012 - Writing a review for a brewery that has already closed is a subtle reminder that I’m far behind on my beer reviews. So, in honor of the late but not so dearly missed Alcatraz Brewery, I begin with a review of their Strawberry. Light and cloudy, this brew gives off a generic and unexciting aroma of corn, masked by the fresh spritziness of the style. The flavor is similarly bland, and if there’s any strawberry in here, it’s been scrubbed from the palate in favor of tastes akin to cheap sparkling cider, a hyper active palate, and a boring, plain dryness. yngwie (17168) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - SEP 3, 2013
On tap at the brewpub. It’s an unclear yellow beer with a nice, dense, white head. Some curtains. The aroma has a good shot of strawberry syrup, hiding most of the pale malts and light fruityness. Quite thin on the palate, with a pleasant carbonation level. Dry. There’s some strawberry in the mouth too, but not as pronounced as in the aroma though. Fruity finish with strawberry and some lemony hints. A refreshing one, but not my kind of beer, still more interesting than the regular wheat. 130903 beerguy101 (5360) - Newark, California, USA - FEB 27, 2012
Sampled at the brewpub on 2/27/2012. This wheat beer pours a slightly cloudy yellow gold color. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is strawberry, wheaty and sweet. A medium to light bodied wheat beer. The malts are wheat, fruity and sweet with a touch of strawberry. The hops are spicy and slightly citrusy. Nice lively carbonation. The strawberry flavor is more in the aroma than the flavor. Its slightly sweet than the Weiss Guy. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. Sample. Rating #3. Light and hazy yellow with a light white head. Big strawberry aroma, like crushed strawberries for a banana split or something. Strawberry flavor was much lighter than the aroma, although it still had a big presence. Not bad at all. (1788) brokensail (16633) - Dublin, California, USA - MAR 20, 2011
A: The pour is a turbid pale straw color with a soapy white head on top of it.
S: Strawberry syrup is a good way to describe this one. Quite sugary and cloying, with a fake strawberry aroma. Smells a bit like that strawberry pie gel stuff.
T: The flavor is much better than I was expecting. Sure, it’s still incredibly sweet, but it has a bit of a strawberries and cream type flavor to it. Definitely sugary and a bit syrupy, though.
M: Light to medium in body with a moderate carbonation.
O: Miles better than the raspberry version and somewhat of a guilty pleasure. I don’t think I could take down a pint of this, but it wasn’t horrible.

On tap at the Alcatraz location in Anaheim, CA.
Poured a lighter and hazy yellow color with a small sized white head. Aromas of citrus, wheatiness, and some strawberries. Tastes follow of the same citrus, wheat, and strawberries. For some reason, the strawberries reminded me of the strawberry ice tea from Ruby Tuesdays.
