The perfect imperial IPA. Resinous, grapefruit and pine hop character bursting with juiciness on the palate. Perfectly balanced and delicious start to finish.

Sampled from a soup ladle, like the can told me to do. Pours a cloudy/hazy golden-orange with a pretty thick eggshell head that settles down to a ring and leaves a few dashes of lace. Nose involves plenty of grapefruit, pine, passion fruit, pineapple, a nice toasted malt character, a light dash of caramel, some apricot, some florals, some sugar cane. Pretty sweet, pretty bitter. Medium-full, oily, bright, a touch grainy, with a surprisingly mellow lingering fruity hop bitter finish. Pretty tasty, big thanks to a good friend and his good friends for making it possible for me to get a can of this. But I must say, dont tell me how to drink my beer. I do what I want.

Had a taste at Dark Lord Day 2014. The aroma is out of this world citrusy. Amazing. So smooth and refreshing. Hoppy but not too bitter. Simply the best IIPA I've ever had. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

got 2 two weeks old can. thanks a lot bart! shared one.. drinking the other one from the can right now! (got to say that its more fruity when you poure it) anyway... rating goes out for the can drinking. a lot of pines, citrus, grapefruit, pineapples, peach. hop bitterness kick in right away. nice carbonated. and nice and smooth mouthfeel. its a crazy good double IPA. and im really happy i got to try one (relatively fresh) since the can needs to find its way over the pond. its worth all the trouble to get your hands on one.

can 1 medium-high hop aroma, pine and citrus orange, some grapefruit 2 yellow straw with a medium white head, fast rising bubbles 3 monster hop flavor with a huge pine character, alcohol in aftertaste 4 medium body with a lively carbonation, long bitter aftertaste 5 Some compare this beer with Pliny, not a chance. An awesome beer but misses the complexity of Pliny. Dont get me wrong, I would drink this all day. Probably less money than Pliny :)

Aroma - nice and citrus packed ~ elements range from grapefruit to peach and pineapple. The malts do show up later. Appearance - body is a peach color yellow-orange; liquid is very hazy and opaque; head is small only about 1/8" of an inch and white, fades into a layer of film. Some intermittent dappling lace. Taste - is predominantly citrus (grapefruit ~ with a pineapple and peach sort of note), and some West Coast hop varieties. There are crystal malt present, but hard to discern. Nicely balanced. Palate - body is medium; not oily, bolder than thin; carbonation is lively; finish is slightly bitter, but very well balanced a very palatable DIPA.

Hazy orange-yellow color, small head. Aromas of clover flowers, yellow grapefruit pulp and jasmine. Flavors of yellow grapefruit and clover honey. Couleur jaune-orange trouble, un peut de mousse. Armes de fleur de trfle, de pulpe de pamplemousse jaune et de jasmin. Saveurs de pamplemousse jaune et de miel de trfle.

Can from Route 7 Liquor & Deli. Pours a very hazy mango-y orangey-yellow, almost no head. Aroma is pungent dank pine and resin, sweet malts, grain, lychee/mango/pineapple nectar, intense cotton-candy sweetness on the finish. Taste is syrupy and juicy orange peel, pineapple juice, pine resin, booze. Delicious, a top DIPA, but the more than slight boozy burn on the finish keeps this from being a clear favorite for me.

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2014 UPDATE TO RATING. Had two cans from same batch. Dont drink it super fresh - let it sit for at least a month. First can (within 2 weeks of release) was good (see review below). Second can? By far the best American-style beer Ive ever had. Better than Pliny. Thats all you need to know, I suppose. Have altered rating accordingly. Fresh can (2nd April 2014) thanks to De Hop Duvel. Aroma: the best thing about this beer. Less than a month since canning with hop debris littering the can, the aroma is intense and well balanced between citrus fruits and pine. One that makes you simply go "Oh. Thats awesome." Appearance: this is an unfiltered, unfined IPA, and I can only mark it as such. Cloudy, orange. Marked down 1 for lack of professionalism. Taste: tastes like a fairly flawless homebrew, essentially. All of that amazing aroma is compounded on the palate. No detectable yeast character, despite the proprietary Conan yeast strain. Complex and gradually unfolding hop flavour. Palate: mouthfeel is sensational - the dry finish combines well with the mouth-coating feel. Overall: this is an excellent homebrew, on a large scale. Not that thats a bad thing, but its not the best IPA in the world. Thats not to say you shouldnt go out of your way to acquire it - its still worth it.
