A traditional German dopplebock. The Bamboozleator has dark caramel aroma and flavor and a long malty finish. The name pays homage to the German tradition that you should not notice the alcohol in a dopplebock until you try standing up, only then will you know you have been Bamboozled.

Draft at Ferment Dissent. 2010 vintage. Brownish amber poor. Nose of caramel, toasted malt, dark fruit and mild oxidation. Flavor is chewy caramel and dark fruits with barely perceptible roast. Really smooth with no noticeable alcohol. Extremely drinkable without showing much of the negative effects of age.

On tap at the OLD brewpup last summer. This one did not do it for me. It was too sweet yet watery as well. This was the first and only time I had it.

Sampled at the brewpub with ck1, thanks bro! Poured a cola brown. Aroma has caramel and citrus fruit - lemon & orange. Taste is a sweet watery caramel with some earthiness. FInishes without a lot of presence; sweet and not very long. Not my favorite of the tray or very representative of the style.

Sampler pour on tap at the brewery pub (Madison, WI). Pours a rich ruby brown hue, glowing copper edges, touches of haze. A small tannish head dies and turns to a tiny ring, minimal lacing. Aromas are sticky, cherries and caramel. Biscuits, bready malts, touches of heat, some smooth sweetness. Not real toasty, more mellow sweet, a touch dark sugar, and a touch boozy. Initial is medium bodied, a touch lighter giving a distinct red cherry, touches of fruit, apple, and biscuity malts. Caramel, toffee, bread, and mellow banana, touches of crisp sweetness, light abv related heat. Middle is a touch sweet, but not thick. Offering touches of alcohol, red cherry, malty caramel, toffee, and biscuits. Bready malts, some nuttiness. Sticky and red cherry finish. Odd one. A bit hot, simple, and just not a style that is my jam to begin with. Ok, overall. Yet a bit simple for how big it is. Meh.

Growler pour in St. Paul, MN. Decent beer but disappointing for Ale Asylum. Taste was wanting up front with a grassy finish.

On tap at the brewery, pours a deep crimson with a thick foamy white head. Not much to the nose, taste is thick with brown sugar and malt syrup, a bit fruity. Probably wouldnt order two in a night, but Id order it again.

Had on tap at the brewpub. I just remember this one being fine, and drinkable, but just not particularly memorable.

Draft at the brewpub. Thick orange-brown color. Very thick malty tastes. Some sublte hoppy bitterness underneath. Thick and rich, a very nice American DB. Lacks some of the subtle malt and yeast qualities found in some German examples, but makes up for it with a fresh quality mouthfeel.
