This is a great nutbrown, and my favorite from WI brewers. Not overly complex, but it always has a fresh, clean taste. Taste and smell is malty, with little hop bitterness.
Chocolate malt smell...Taste is heavier malts but no chocolate...Smooth but not greatest taste...All malt, zero hops, straightforward. At landfill design course in Wisconsin!! MetalNHopHead (1899) - Lincoln, Nebraska, USA - NOV 10, 2016
Madtown Nutbrown drinks like a bigger beer than it is. Thatís definitely not something you can say about most American Brown Ales. This one has richness, creaminess, and yes, nuttiness. Attractive garnet pour with sweet malty smells. Chocolate, caramel, and vanilla flavors. Velvety smooth mouthfeel. Shit, Ale Asylum even does Brown Ales well. Poured into a nonic pint, the appearance was a rugged semi-dark brown color with a fingerís worth of white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Sly messy lacing.
The aroma starts with some roasted nuts, coffee, bread, subtle caramel and earthiness.
The flavor balances crisp sweet to earthy to roastiness. All combining in the aftertaste and the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Good carbonation.
Overall, good brown ale that leans English in its style. Carlisle (734) - Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 30, 2016
Bottle. Pours brown with light tan head that dissipates quickly and some lacing. Coffee, chocolate and caramel notes along with bread crust in the nose. Bready malt with coffee, chocolate, and caramel notes. Thinner mouthfeel than expected.

May I suggest that seven malts may be too many for a brown ale? Besides a bit of caramel in the aroma, there was little more to show for the malt investment. This ale isnít particularly sweet, nutty or creamy. Pleasant enough, but thatís about it. Had from a tap.

On tap at Howells & Hood.
Brownish with a small head. Fairly mild with malt, chocolate, vanilla some toffee and nuts. The body was medium and the finish on the dry side.

Pours chestnut brown with aroma of nuts, caramel, and chocolate. Nutty flavor with some toffee sweetness and chocolate. A bit underdeveloped, but nice nonetheless. zoucrew102 (1818) - - NOV 15, 2015
Bottle, thanks George999! Rich, nutty aroma with sweet caramel notes. Pours dark caramel brown with a thin tan head with poor retention and some lacing. Starts with rich nutty flavors with a bit toffee. Finishes smooth with excellent caramel sweetness permeating the other flavors nicely. Excellent brown ale!
