12/31/2008: Ale Asylum Mercy Grand Cru... Aroma: Sugary and spicy, soft fruitiness; Belgian-like; definitely strong; hints of something dark and roasty in the background. Appearance: Coppery orange color with a thin beige head; looks heavy and syrupy on the pour; slight haze. Flavor: Sweet toasted malt followed by Belgian-like fruits (peach, apricot, citrus, dates), candi sugar, and subtle spice; fruit leather; strong flavor, but alcohol is not present. Palate: Medium-full body; smooth, slightly syrupy feel in the mouth. Overall: Moderate complexity; well-done; very drinkable; A great beer to just drink and enjoy and not have to think to hard about it!

12 fl. oz. bottle shared by Jason. Thanks! Rating #35 for this beer.

Bottle at Toncatchers. Thanks to whoever brought this. Amber pour with a small off-white head. The aroma was moderate in strength with assorted fruits and spices. The flavor was sweet and interesting with an odd mix of spices that I cant pin down at this point in the tasting. The mouthfeel is a bit thin. Overall: Not bad, not great either, but not bad.

Bottle bought in WI. Sweet candy cinammon spice aroma. Dark amber body with off-white head. Flavor of sticky sugary candy, yeasty bread notes and moderate spice to the flavor also. Thick almost like cough syrup. Although the beer was spicy, sweet and sugary it was acceptable on the palate unlike some other sweet beers that just destroy the palate.

Clear amber appearance, thin wispy head. Nose was sweet, veginital, somewhat fruity but with a vomit-like essence to it. Thin mouthfeel, fruity, sugary flavors...thin palate. meh.

From esjaygee, thanks Steve. Pours has a small head but it sticks around. Color of the beer is a thick, yet glowing, reddish-orange-copper. Cannot see through it but it looks beautiful. Aroma has a bit of that candy-ish, sweet syrup thing going but it isnt bad here. Plays well, just there and not overbearing. Otherwise, there is sweet mallt and light alcohol coming through. It all works well together to represent an American version of a Quad. Taste is lightly fruity sweet syrup (not too sweet). Easy drinking yet full and alcoholic and sweet. So it balances the line fairly well. The problem is while it isnt "bad" there isnt coming from it. It is just a fruity, lightly sweet, strong ale. I would never really think of this as a quad. But for what it is, it is decent,
It is what is is..................................
