Tasted in July of 2013 from a bottle with the Nashville crew. Pours clear light golden brown with an average beige head that leaves average lace. The nose is burnt bitter with some caramel and plenty of roast. The flavor is even more burnt bitterness than anything else, some caramel and toffee, just a touch of brown sugar, and a very light metallic note. The body is full with average carbonation and a long burnt and bitter finish.

On tap at Baileys Taproom. Colour...very murky reddish brown with no head. Nose...very fruity, especially dark raisins, dates and currants with funky bits here and there. Palate...a funky, musty hit gets things rolling and then the dark fruits make a strong appearance. The musty flavour carries across the palate and then prunes and prune pits show up. This is an interesting ale!

Pours a clear ruby/amber with a thick tan head. aroma has notes of fruit and chalky nuttiness...a bit like a pb&j sammie. flavor follows suit...decent hoppiness but cuts through that pb&j sammie abruptly...almost muddles it...boozy. mouthfeel is medium and silky with fruity/nutty/earthy dry and bitter finish.

(750ml thanks Jaime) clearish ruddy amber, fine deep amber. Nose of barrel, cream, berry, raisin, rum. Taste of raisin, cream, barrel, complex and tasty.

On draft at the Livermore Saloon. It pours a very muddy, orange/brown color with an orange/tan head. Looks like swamp water. The aroma totally reminds me of a PB&J sandwich. Is that what really killed Elvis, or was it the drugs? Anyway, it has light toasty malt with some nuttiness and lots of sweet dark fruit, almost jammy. Belgian yeast spiciness is present but not overpowering. The flavor has very strong alcohol and rich dark fruit, toffee, and toasty bitterness. Lots of fruity, spicy and alcohol esters. Subdued nutty and cocoa notes. A little dried apricot and caramel as well. Needless to say, there’s a lot going on here. Kind of messy, but that’s the whole point with this one isn’t it (going by the name)? I would have preferred less bitterness. Too much hops for a beer like this.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours dark ruddy amber with a creamy beige head. Aroma of reddish berries with a hint of dark chocolate. Med body. Smooth. Fruit, malt, not quite dry - flavor. No heat. Excellent for enjoying in the evening.

marcus (10222) - Sacramento, California, USA - FEB 18, 2013
Bottle from Capitol Beer, Sacramento.pours caramel with a thin beige head and a fruit and honey aroma. There is a slightly harsh, but tasty treacle flavor with some dark fruit and a bitter finish. No alcohol heat.

On tap at Beer Revolution. Aroma is not good. An odd putrid fruit note mixes with grain to make an aroma similar to rotting banana bread. This smells bad, and then the alcohol aroma hits and make it worse. Pours an almost still burnt amber color with just a thin light tan head that quickly recedes. Looks better than it smells. Flavor is slightly better. The fruit notes are still really odd and arguably off. The malt is way too much Vienna and doesn't mix well with the fruitiness. Sweet, but also moderately high astringency. Bitterness is moderate. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied. Carbonation is very low. Astringency is moderately high. Alcohol warmth is moderate. I have a hard time finding a redeeming quality to this beer. I really wished I could like this brewery but I still haven't had a good beer from them. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Amber-brown beer with a cream head. Sweet malt and light pine aroma. Malt and earthy flavor with light pine and light grapefruit. Medium bodied. Malt and earthiness lingers with light caramel and light pine. Messy and underwhelming. Disapointing.
