Bottle from long ago. I forget where I purchased it; probably Belmont Station.
A: Dark mahogany that’s near to black. Creme colored foam head. Some lacing.
N: Maple syrup, smoke, caramel, vanilla, some cocoa, more smoke resulting in whiffs of bacon, hint of black peppercorn, earth, and a rounding out of pine.
T: Smoky, bitter, and sweet commingled together in elegant proportion.
M: Medium body, foamy prickling carbonation, alcohol is well-hidden.
O: Tasty mixture of maple syrup and smoked barleywine. The maple adds the type of complexity to this that something like Canadian Breakfast Stout is missing. Excellent beer; I expect that this has mellowed quite a bit. Theydon_Bois (19200) - Hazlemere, the lower Xhitlerns, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - APR 12, 2015
Bottle split at Bruces pad - for the last time, big thanks to Scopester, 27/03/15.
Murky amber orange topped with a moderate beige swirl that stays for the show.
Nose is rich fruit, spice, fruit cake mix, dates.
Taste comprises caramel, dark fruit peel, light spice, booze tunes, fruit cake, toffee fudge.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with lightly warming booze.
Decent barley wine. The_Osprey (7883) - Richmond, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 28, 2015
Bottle share. Thanks to Paul and Lorna! Reddy brown, hazy, sparkling, small tan head. Aroma is dates, pine, oxidised port. Body is medium, smooth, low carbonation. Taste is boozey up front, sweet dates, a little acidic, light smoke, dry finish with no real bitterness. Leighton (21085) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 27, 2015
Bottle shared in London - thanks to Paul. Pours unclear amber with a few floaties and a creamy tan head. Suggestions of oxidation in the aroma, crackers, caramel, toast. Medium sweet flavor with some smoked meat, dry caramel, toasted grains, slight earth. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warming finish with some ripe semi-dark fruits, more toast, creamy caramel, alcohol, toasted rye, subtle smoked ham, honey. Great stuff overall. djd07 (14366) - Houston, Texas, USA - MAR 11, 2015
Bottle thanks to Will. Pours a cloudy brown with small beige head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is toasted grain and caramel. Medium mouth, nice booze, dark fruits, caramel, maple, light smoke in the finish, very nice.

750 ml bottle poured into a brandy snifter. Pours a hazy copper with a beige head of foam. The aroma has notes of smoke, wood, toffee, nuts, and raisin. The taste is similar, with the smoke coming through more as the beer warms. Thicker body and medium carbonation. ryanfolty (2539) - Bourbon County, Minnesota, USA - NOV 26, 2014
November 26, 2014 - bottle via trade. Light brown pour with limited head that faded quickly. Aroma was maple and smoke. Taste was consistent with the aroma, started with the caramel and maple sweetness and finished with a nice smoke. This was one of the best non-BA barley wines I have had. Thanks to Brandon for sharing. dalekliz (922) - San Diego, California, USA - NOV 2, 2014
Bottle. Pours a murky dark red-brown with a small cream colored head. Aroma is rich and sweet, of dark fruits, maple syrup, caramel malt, vanilla. Taste is very sweet, overripe dark fruits, dates, figs, sticky caramel and maple syrup, and smoked meats underneath everything. Hides the alcohol dangerously well. Lingering sweetness. Very tasty, but could use just a bit more smoke to counter all the sweetness. jackl (8029) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - OCT 25, 2014
Bottle @ CK. deep ber with a small head. Sorting peppery and hot. Caramel swirl and cows tails. Taste is sort of smoky, some ham, some caramel. Brown sugar. Medium body, soft carb. Too much smoke character. slowrunner77 (11917) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 25, 2014
"2nd wish list cross off from Toronado SD. Maple smoked barlwywine. Just sounds awesome. It met expectations everywhere but the body, which was lacking just a little smoothness/depth/fullness. The flavor and aroma were spot on, with the smoke being up front and the maple very subtle."
