"2nd wish list cross off from Toronado SD. Maple smoked barlwywine. Just sounds awesome. It met expectations everywhere but the body, which was lacking just a little smoothness/depth/fullness. The flavor and aroma were spot on, with the smoke being up front and the maple very subtle." pushkinwow (2888) - Ottawa, CANADA - AUG 10, 2014
750ml bottle from Capones. Cloudy and murky light brown pour with a light beige head. Apple brandy, light maple syrup, smokyness complements and doesn’t overwhelm, some roasted and sweet malt, moderate carbonation and full body, fairly sweet throughout but just stops shy of being overwhelming. Quite enjoyable. Stuu666 (14552) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUL 6, 2014

HMOG 2014. Smokey barleywine? Interesting, but I have come to know that a smoke is something that I rarely dig. Unfortunately, this was not one of the few that I like. Mild, light smoke, hints of bacon with bits of maple and a goes does of molasses. Sweet boozy finish. Not bad, just not my thing I suppose. jrob21 (3772) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - MAR 16, 2014
HMOG donation. Brought this back from SD about a year and half ago and it already had about a year of age on it. Not sure what possessed me other than to get the Alesmith rate but I am not typically a big fan of smoke. It has to be done well and pretty damn subtle in order for me to like it. This one still has a bit of smoke going on which is exacerbated a bit by the maple as well. Personal preference here so don’t knock my rate. MattiasA (862) - Malmö, SWEDEN - MAR 1, 2014
Backlog. Sweet and smokey, with grains, caramel, brown sugar and a hint of dried fruits. icehawk (834) - Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, USA - NOV 5, 2013
Aroma of smoke and alcohol. Medium body, sweet, somewhat chewy mouthfeel. Burnt maple syrup, with hints of alcohol. Warm alcohol finish. Advocate_Ames (635) - Steubenville, Ohio, USA - OCT 27, 2013
Pours dark amber with a head that dissipates and went to hug my glass. In the aroma I noticed booze, smoked malts, dark fruit, weak hop aroma, and a slight sweet sugar like scent. The flavor is of mild booze, mild smoked malts, weak bitter hop flavor, sweet sugar taste from the maple syrup, and a moderate dark fruit flavor. The finish is of booze, mild bitterness, sweetener, and grains. Overall a good beverage but not as memorable as the bottle states.
