COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Alesmith Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. Our brewers had such a great time concocting Alesmith Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our anniversary. Alesmith Decadence 2011 is a Maple Smoked Barley wine. Blending elements of two beer styles, smoke beer and barley-wine. Alesmith has created a unique, homebrew-inspired beer. Big and malty, with a huge Bamberg smoked-malt character, Alesmith Decadence 2011 has another very special ingredient: Vermont maple syrup. The smoky malt flavor is perfectly balanced by modest bittering hop additions. A rich, full-bodied beer designed to deliver a memorable drinking experience. Join our anniversary celebration with Alesmith Decadence. You’ll soon discover why Alesmith is known around the world as the place to find legendary craftsmanship.

Pours dark amber with a head that dissipates and went to hug my glass. In the aroma I noticed booze, smoked malts, dark fruit, weak hop aroma, and a slight sweet sugar like scent. The flavor is of mild booze, mild smoked malts, weak bitter hop flavor, sweet sugar taste from the maple syrup, and a moderate dark fruit flavor. The finish is of booze, mild bitterness, sweetener, and grains. Overall a good beverage but not as memorable as the bottle states.

750 ml bottle purchased a year and a half ago at Holiday Wine Cellar ($16.99). Pours a nice red-garnet hue with one finger of beige foam. AROMA of rauch, old leather, sticky dark fruit, thick maple syrup, caramel, and a hint of booze. FLAVOR of thick caramel/toffee, honey, maple syrup, mellower smokiness than the nose, candied fruit, butterscotch, and a noticeable amount of booze. Finishes moderately dry with some lingering sweetness and warming alcohol. Rather sweet...thought not quite cloying, it could be toned down a little bit. The age may have heightened the smoke here, but as it warmed up the smoke was less intense and the maple came out much more in the nose and flavor. The big booze in this one is a little odd from Alesmith, a brewery that excels at making giant beers with no perceptible alcohol. (109, 811)

Amber pour with lots of smoke, toffee and maple. There is plenty of booziness with light smoke and some balanced bitterness. Pretty damn tasty.

Bottle sampled at phillybeerscene bottle share. Aroma is sweet and smokey like mesquite (but tamer). Nice malty profile. Pours brown red with slight lacing. Taste is very pleasant. The smoke has faded into a pleasant balance of campfire and maple sugar. Overall, nice and meaty with some sweet bbq. Understated but good.

25.4 oz bottle. Cloudy brown with beige froth. Nose is caramel, light smoke and raisin. Medium body with a tang. Taste is caramel, smoke; just the perfect touch of smoke; hints of maple with a slight touch of grass. Great hybrid.

750mL bottle, pours an opaque, murky dark mahogany with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out light notes of smoke, medium maple, some caramel and dark fruits. Flavour brings out low-to-medium notes of smoke, moderate maple, lots of caramel and dark fruits. The smoke and maple, which initially set off alarm bells for me, are not too overbearing - they are well-situated. Dry smoky palate with a perfect amount of sweetness. I’m glad I waited more than a year to open this, as I’m sure the maple and smoke is better integrated than at bottling. Still, not my favourite flavours, but or what it is, it’s great.

Cloudy red - brown beer, big pale cream coloured head. Smooth palate, almost silky. Semi dry. Creamy malt, a little toffee. Smooth aniseed alcohol, no heat. Subtle sweetness. Very subtle smoke. Whisper of spicy bubblegum ester. Semi dry finish. Pretty drinkable.
