Murky caramel-brown with good, creamy, tan head (barrel-aged?) / Rich, lightly hot nose of smoke, caramel, / Just shy of full body, sweet and chewy, smooth, with excellent balance and bitter finish lurking under the big body, and alcohol well masked / Flavors of fresh caramel, maple, just the right amount of smoke, orange, date, licorice, and oak? / One of the best barleywines I’ve ever had. crossovert (13724) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 27, 2013
Jsut a huge one right here. Big, robust, nice smoke, sweet caramel, big mouthfeel. arkurzynski (2456) - Combined Locks, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 27, 2013
Sample shared at Central Waters anniversary party. Hazy red-brown pour. Loved the nose on this one - faded dank hops, dark fruit, caramel, salty bacon covered with sticky maple syrup. Flavor is dark fruit and caramel with maple sweetness and a medium salty smoke in the background. Some citrus hop bitterness to balance. Definitely not cloying with all flavors well-balanced and showcased. Alcohol nowhere to be found and palate was actually thinner than expected making this crazy easy to drink. Really an incredibly well balanced barleywine, begins with a really nice malt backbone with a solid woody note and a sweetness which sneaks in through the finish and lingers beautifully on the palate afterwards as it becomes deeper. This was a really incredible barleywine, really phenomenally well balanced and delicious, really wish i had some more to tuck away although it is pretty much perfect now emacgee (4704) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - DEC 28, 2012
Pours a rich copper amber with a little bit of haze in it. One finger of creamy sandstone yellow head. Nose is very nice, soft and smooth smoky notes. Some old hay and notes of caramel and toasted grain with a touch of raisin and alcohol. Rich flavor, very well blended/balanced smoke character with just a touch of sweetness. Full bodied with a soft carbonation. Herbal/crisp hop character on the finish. Some treacle and raisin comes through.

Bottle from Casa De Oro. Hazy fig looking color. Nose is rich dark fruits and a good deal of smoke. Some alcohol as well. Rich malt and dark fruit up front with a smokey sort of thing going on. Rich and flavorful with a good balance of flavors. Tastes kind of like a smoked Belgian. Alcohol is well hidden. hopscotch (11181) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - DEC 10, 2012
Bottle... This beer rocks!… Pours murky brown with a small, creamy, mushroom-colored head. Good retention. The bouquet is very reminiscent of smoked maple bacon. Who doesn’t love that? Medium-bodied with laid-back carbonation. The flavor is a lavish mélange of maple smoke, brown sugar and sweet caramel. Finishes malty and faintly acidic. Huge props to newcigarz for sharing this fantastic treat! kimjongill (207) - - DEC 2, 2012
From bottle. Pours a light brown with thick white head. Smells of smoke and maple. Tastes of caramel, maple, and smoke aftertaste. Pretty good release. Will let my other bottle age longer. BenH (3436) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - NOV 10, 2012
Bottle. Looks great, mahogany brown with off white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, molasses, some raisins and dried fruit. Taste of heavy caramel, molasses, toffee, dried fruits with a smokey edge. Full bodied, sweet with a clean finish. Nice Benjii (3049) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - NOV 10, 2012
In bottle at Craig’s. Pours a dark amber colour with a fair beige head. Aroma of liquorice, chocolate, caramel and alcohol. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Lovely with lingering red berries.
