Alesmith Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. Our brewers had such a great time concocting Alesmith Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our anniversary. Alesmith Decadence 2011 is a Maple Smoked Barley wine. Blending elements of two beer styles, smoke beer and barley-wine. Alesmith has created a unique, homebrew-inspired beer. Big and malty, with a huge Bamberg smoked-malt character, Alesmith Decadence 2011 has another very special ingredient: Vermont maple syrup. The smoky malt flavor is perfectly balanced by modest bittering hop additions. A rich, full-bodied beer designed to deliver a memorable drinking experience. Join our anniversary celebration with Alesmith Decadence. You’ll soon discover why Alesmith is known around the world as the place to find legendary craftsmanship.

I love my barley wines - and never thought some smoke flavor would be a nice addition. The aroma is of lightly smoked meat, maple syrup and apples. For the taste, twas’ just about the same, but more malt-forward with light cherry tones. Maple did come out as it warmed up, nicely covering up the high ABV. OmegaX - you are the man for finding this one.

In short: A very sweet (mostly maple syrup) copper ale with a moderate smoke character. Just ok.
How: Bottle shared with friends, post Tap-NY 2012 Hotel party
The look: Cloudy dark copper body topped by a medium beige head with medium retention
In long: Nose is a bit of smoke and a lot of maple syrup. The smoke character is part wood smoke, part meaty smoke. Taste is uber-sweet, lots of maple syrup, candies, caramel, distant fruity notes, medium smoke presence. Alcohol is not a factor lost in the maple syrup. Somewhat reminiscent of Bruery Lawsons Finest Acer Quercus but more maple syrup and less smoky, I preferred the Acer Quercus. Not my type of brew, maybe with some age on it, right now it is too much of a sugar bomb. Anyway, I told everybody who enjoyed that beer that they don’t have a sophisticated palate, and I’m getting really annoyed that these people think I’m either a pretentious beer snob or a pathetic drunk, for the last time people, I am both.

Bottle, shared at RBAG Summer Session 2012. Dark brown, golden highlights, thick golden-hued crown. Aroma is sweet and smoky, very rich! Lots of maple syrup flavour balanced by just the right amount of rustic campfire smoke, sweet raisins, vanilla, vague spices. Hell yeah! I loved this beer!

75cl Bottle @ RBBSG, courtesy of Sebletitje. Brown coloured beer with some light carbonation and a small off white head. Light smokey malty and alcoholic hinted aroma. Full palate. Finish is creamy, light alcoholic malty with a fruity bitter sweet hint. Ok.

Pour from the cask is a dark caramel color, maybe copper, with a thick khaki head. Light smoke on the nose, nice maple syrup, some bready malt and toast, and lots of toffee and caramel. Plenty of dark fruits and a light alcohol note. The flavor is a bit boozer than the nose, but not overly hot. Bready malt, toffee, caramel, brown sugar, and plenty of maple. There’s a light smoke note to it, a touch of wood, and a bit of vanilla. Some dark fruit notes, and an overall complexity that makes this very enjoyable to drink.

750 ml bottle from BevMo Valencia. Nose is lightly smoky, maple sweetness, and a hint of toffee. Clear rusty red with a small beige head. Flavor is lightly bitter, pepperiness, smoky, and some hints of raisins and yeast.

At recent RBBSG thx to sebletitje for sharing !

Smell: malts, cereal, oatmeal, maple syrup
Taste: Smokey, Rye, Boze, Sugar, Anise, Herbs ...

Again this proves that allot of the Hyped beers out there aren’t as good as everybody’s saying ... Always a shame that the very good beers ( but who are easier to get ) always get busted down because of overly hyped stuff like this ... NOT COOL !!
