75cl bottle courtesy of Ibrew2or3, sharde at RBBSG 2012, cheers Dave and thanks for the bottle.
Benzai (16527) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - AUG 11, 2012
Sampled at RBBSG. Slightly unclear red color, small off-white head. Smell malts, slightly bacon, slightly smoke, slightly alcohol and slightly sweet. Taste malts, a lot of alcohol, some sweetness, a hint of smoke. Medium body, medium carbo. Niko100 (2981) - Chicago, New York, USA - AUG 4, 2012
Hazy amber/cider color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of smoky sweet malt, caramel/toffee, & some dark fruit; Flavor of roasted/smoky sweet malt, caramel, molasses/maple syrup, spicy hops, and dark fruit; Finish is slightly bitter with some alcohol; Nicely balanced; Overall, well crafted - but just ok for me. reggiedunlop (3726) - The dub c, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 31, 2012
Pours a nice clear amber/ruby with a medium tan head. Aroma has mild smoke...bacony with a touch of maple...light bitter/fruitiness underneath. Flavor is lightly boozy with nice smokiness...not as much maple...oaky/bitter. Mouthfeel is lt/medium with a smoky/bitter dry finish that warms and lingers.

Pours dark brown color with some haze to it. Has some smoke and sweet flavor to it. I was surprised about the malt taste (and honestly I don’t know why), but I thought it went well with the smoky/sweet taste this beer had hellbilly (3247) - scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA - JUL 30, 2012
bottle from nick7/28/12.
rich coppery brown ....slight haze....off white head.
big whiff of gingersnap cookies, maple, sweet smoke, candy and a light fruity sourness.
the flavor is the same....oddly delicious but with a defined sourness as it warms.
full bodied...syrupy but spice and sour keep it drinkable. marcus (10571) - Sacramento, California, USA - JUL 29, 2012
Bottle from Healthy Spirits. Pours reddish copper with lots of floaties and a smoky fruit aroma. There is an attractive tan head and a very smoky caramel malt and treacle flavor. CamdenD (1197) - Madrid, SPAIN - JUL 20, 2012
This may need more time. Smoke and maple are but extremely understated and what is left is a nearly-chalky barleywine. Nice sweetness and not over-hopped, however, and that makes this more typical than i would think. Not worth the price. At this time. Steve_0 (3744) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JUL 17, 2012
750 mL on my balcony with Ryan, Eddie, and John, courtesy of Armin. Thanks man! Poured a hazy copper with an off-white head. Smell is bacon, maple, toffee, smoke, BBQ, and syrup. Taste is toffee, light banana, a hint of smoke, rauchy, caramel, maple syrup, and clove with a medium bitter finish. Mouthfeel is medium with medium carbonation. Much more smoky in the aroma than in the taste, pretty decent and suprising barleywine.
