4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Really an incredibly well balanced barleywine, begins with a really nice malt backbone with a solid woody note and a sweetness which sneaks in through the finish and lingers beautifully on the palate afterwards as it becomes deeper. This was a really incredible barleywine, really phenomenally well balanced and delicious, really wish i had some more to tuck away although it is pretty much perfect now
Bottle from Capone's and my cellar. Pour medium to dark brown with ruby hew with foam that lingers around the edge of the glass. Aroma is toffee, stove top candy my grand mom made, malted barley, phenol, and a touch of smoke. Taste is similar with a nice clean finish and little oxidation. This beer held up nicely. Shared at a tasting at douglas88 place (sorry I’m not giving props to who brought it - can’t remember) - pours reddish amber with a tan head. The aroma has smoke, toffee, brown sugar, maple sweetness, richness and some berries. It has a full rich chewy body with soft carbonation. The taste starts with maple, heavy toast, caramel, toffee, English yeast, wood and some oxidation. The finish is woody and grainy. Quite nice. kermis (14751) - The Hague / Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - AUG 19, 2015
Bottle shared. Pours cloudy brown with a small tan head. Aroma of butterscotch, toffee, sweet malt, light spice, booze. Flavour is light heavy sweet and light moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. A little disappointing and one dimensional, expected more from this. Maakun (6582) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - AUG 19, 2015
UPDATED: AUG 20, 2015 Bottle shared thanks to Kermis. Hazy dark amber with some little things floating around. Lots of sweet malts, sugars, butterscotch, yeast, bitter herbs, maybe some light smoke, toffee, dried peach. Over medium sweet with alcoholic bitter finish. Full bodied, with low carbonation and the body just dissoves in your mouth. Weird beer, not too bad but a bit one dimensional. Scotty001 (573) - Portlethen, SCOTLAND - AUG 19, 2015
