Alesmith Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. Our brewers had such a great time concocting Alesmith Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our anniversary. Alesmith Decadence 2011 is a Maple Smoked Barley wine. Blending elements of two beer styles, smoke beer and barley-wine. Alesmith has created a unique, homebrew-inspired beer. Big and malty, with a huge Bamberg smoked-malt character, Alesmith Decadence 2011 has another very special ingredient: Vermont maple syrup. The smoky malt flavor is perfectly balanced by modest bittering hop additions. A rich, full-bodied beer designed to deliver a memorable drinking experience. Join our anniversary celebration with Alesmith Decadence. Youll soon discover why Alesmith is known around the world as the place to find legendary craftsmanship.

   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 8/10   PALATE 5/5   OVERALL 15/20
StefanSD (2435) - Ouray, Colorado, USA - FEB 29, 2012
UPDATED: MAR 1, 2012 750 ml bottle from the brewery. Pours a translucent amber-brown color with a medium beige head that has fair retention. The aroma is soft with sweet roasted malts and a small bit of smoke. The flavor features ample nutty malts, plums, sourdough bread and maple. There is a smattering of hot alcohol in the taste as well. The mouthfeel is rich and full with lively carbonation. Finishes very long with lingering subtle sweet maple. Overall: I found this a bit hot around the edges, and I was somewhat disappointed by the lack of smoke. Those quibbles aside, this is a really good brew. End note-- having worked my way through the whole bottle I found the smoke flavor more distinctive with the trub at the end bottle. Im thinking that some settling has occurred and fans of smoke may want to agitate/remix their bottles prior to drinking and the anti-smoke crowd will want to take care not to disturb the lees and trub.

Shared at a tasting at douglas88 place (sorry Im not giving props to who brought it - cant remember) - pours reddish amber with a tan head. The aroma has smoke, toffee, brown sugar, maple sweetness, richness and some berries. It has a full rich chewy body with soft carbonation. The taste starts with maple, heavy toast, caramel, toffee, English yeast, wood and some oxidation. The finish is woody and grainy. Quite nice.

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2015 Bottle shared thanks to Kermis. Hazy dark amber with some little things floating around. Lots of sweet malts, sugars, butterscotch, yeast, bitter herbs, maybe some light smoke, toffee, dried peach. Over medium sweet with alcoholic bitter finish. Full bodied, with low carbonation and the body just dissoves in your mouth. Weird beer, not too bad but a bit one dimensional.

Bottle. Hazy clear amber with legs but no head. Aroma is big, spicy, yeast, malt, moderate smoke, alcohol heat. Flavor is dense malt smoke, earthy dense hops, meaty finish. Feel is thin with a little heat. So well constructed and could age longer.
