COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Horny Devil is our interpretation of a Belgian-style Golden Ale. Brewed with authentic Belgian ingredients including candi sugar and a Trappist yeast strain, its fruity and spicy aromas include notes of orange, banana, and peppercorns. Coriander seeds add refreshing citrus notes which meld seamlessly with the beers delicate malt. Horny Devil finishes with a lively carbonation and a refreshingly dry finish.

Devils night at Mullmans. Pours a hazy light amber with an ok head. Initial aroma almost reminded me of of some marijuana, then the citrus and coriander are noticed later. Flavor is spicy with lots of belgian yeast, and a ton of coriander. Mouthfeel almost tastes a bit salty to me, but still pretty smooth.

GABF 2005.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow & tupalev -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a cloudy dark yellow with an average size white head. Aroma of yeast, fruit, alcohol, pepper and other spices -- one of the best smelling beers Ive encountered. Flavour follows the aroma and is well-balanced -- its not overly sweet. Mouthfeel has strong alcohol notes and a smooth finish. Once again AleSmith does not dissapoint -- this is truly unique and a very good Belgian Strong Ale.

Bottle from courtesy of HogTownHarry - shared with blankboy, HogTownHarry and GregClow. Dark yellow, big white head. No alcohol (surprising), some coriander in aroma - nice - mild. Thin to medium mouthfeel. Strong lemon taste. Lots of alcohol, with some bitterness at the end. Nice strong Belgian Ale, maybe just a tad too strong by the end of the glass. Well done.

Bottle from courtesy of HogTownHarry - shared with blankboy, HogTownHarry and tupalev. Hazy gold with a large white head. Aroma is sweet and funky - apricot, yeast, spice & pepper. Flavour follows the aroma very nicely, with a great balance of fruit, yeast, pepper and warm alcohol notes. In a blind tasting, Id easily believe this was a Belgian beer, which is something that I can rarely say about North American attempts at brewing this style of beer. Well done.

No head, dark amber appearance. String alcohol aroma with a hint of orange. Fruity taste with a strong taste of alcohol. Strong yet not overbearing taste.

UPDATED: OCT 2, 2005 Bottle (750ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and Tupalev, bottle courtesy of yours truly. Poured hazy gold with a good tight foamy-creamy lasting white head. Funky yeasty aroma, some banana and other fruits, alcohol, black pepper and coriander, a bit sour to my nose. Taste delivers what the nose promised - fruit, quite a bit of earthy, peaty spice, alcohol; enough malt/candy/fruit sweetness to keep it on a relatively even keel. Mouthfeel slightly sticky and lively, and you can really feel the alcohol, but not too harsh to my palate - in a word, "strong". As GregClow says, for once you actually think "belgian" when you taste this one, unlike most NorAm belgian-styles.

No head at all. I like my Belgian strong ales to have some gas in them. This has virtually none. Malty honey nose. Orangeish yellowish hazy hue. Sweet on the palate that flips between bitter and sweet. Dry finish. Reminds of some trappists ales (like Rochefort) but not as caramel and way more bitter. Alcohol is a little harsh. They arent as good as hiding it as the Belgians.

Bottle. Hazy amber/orange color with small white head. Aroma is mildly friuty with candy sugar and alcohol. Taste is a bit sweet with light coriander. Finishes slightly bitter. Very drinkable, but I was hoping for more.
