Horny Devil is our interpretation of a Belgian-style Golden Ale. Brewed with authentic Belgian ingredients including candi sugar and a Trappist yeast strain, its fruity and spicy aromas include notes of orange, banana, and peppercorns. Coriander seeds add refreshing citrus notes which meld seamlessly with the beers delicate malt. Horny Devil finishes with a lively carbonation and a refreshingly dry finish.

Bottle from courtesy of HogTownHarry - shared with blankboy, HogTownHarry and tupalev. Hazy gold with a large white head. Aroma is sweet and funky - apricot, yeast, spice & pepper. Flavour follows the aroma very nicely, with a great balance of fruit, yeast, pepper and warm alcohol notes. In a blind tasting, Id easily believe this was a Belgian beer, which is something that I can rarely say about North American attempts at brewing this style of beer. Well done.

No head, dark amber appearance. String alcohol aroma with a hint of orange. Fruity taste with a strong taste of alcohol. Strong yet not overbearing taste.

UPDATED: OCT 2, 2005 Bottle (750ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and Tupalev, bottle courtesy of yours truly. Poured hazy gold with a good tight foamy-creamy lasting white head. Funky yeasty aroma, some banana and other fruits, alcohol, black pepper and coriander, a bit sour to my nose. Taste delivers what the nose promised - fruit, quite a bit of earthy, peaty spice, alcohol; enough malt/candy/fruit sweetness to keep it on a relatively even keel. Mouthfeel slightly sticky and lively, and you can really feel the alcohol, but not too harsh to my palate - in a word, "strong". As GregClow says, for once you actually think "belgian" when you taste this one, unlike most NorAm belgian-styles.

No head at all. I like my Belgian strong ales to have some gas in them. This has virtually none. Malty honey nose. Orangeish yellowish hazy hue. Sweet on the palate that flips between bitter and sweet. Dry finish. Reminds of some trappists ales (like Rochefort) but not as caramel and way more bitter. Alcohol is a little harsh. They arent as good as hiding it as the Belgians.

Bottle. Hazy amber/orange color with small white head. Aroma is mildly friuty with candy sugar and alcohol. Taste is a bit sweet with light coriander. Finishes slightly bitter. Very drinkable, but I was hoping for more.

Deep orange-gold color with a light head. Aroma of fruit and spice with orange, banana, coriander, and pepper. Well-balanced Belgian yeast characteristics and a bit of sweetness dont overwhelm the complex flavors. Thick mouthfeel with strong, warm alcohol notes and a smooth, dry finish is remarkable. Quite a different sort of Belgian strong ale.

Deep banana color body with ultra-fine particles and a lacy, soft cottony head. Nice spicy nose of pepper and mild lime plus light bubble gum. Nutty malt character in the flavor with pleasant esters, light clove-like phenols, and medium sweetness. Good balance. Delicate, pleasant, and good overall.

KAggie97 (3529) - Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA - SEP 21, 2005
Bottle, pre-Rita festivies. Pours a blurry, watery orange. Aroma is apple and a dash of coriander. Flavor is apple, orange, coriander, raisin, and a dash of bread. Lots of flavors swirling around, but they all come together in the finish. Palate is slippery and enticing. Great beer; another winner from AleSmith.

Bottle, from Julios. Good nose, sweet. Honey, almond, banana, corriander, bourbon, Clean brownish orange color, sediment was in 2cd pour. NO head to speak of. Bottle had a soft pop on opening. Sweet bitter flavors. Like aroma with fruit, apricot, date, toffee. Medium body, flat smooth kinda oily mouthfeel. Sweet dry finish. Good beer. Really like it on he second pour. It had warmed up nicely.

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2005 750ml - bought from brewery 05/05 - Aroma is sticky yeast, coriander, alcohol, and candi sugar. Pours a cloudy orange with cascading bubbles, a small head, and great lacing. Flavor is a bit off but still good. Sweet and bitter, coriander, candi sugar, alcohol, and a bit more malt and citrus than the aroma. Palate is dry and crisp. Nice.
