This was the right beer at the right time for me. I hadn’t had a beer in over two weeks, and I was looking for something rich and thick and delicious. In this beer there is absolutely nothing that can be improved upon. Don’t age your bottles any longer, Peter did that for us. Drink it now! daknole (11050) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JAN 18, 2009
Bottle from sauceyhops. Gabe you made my year. This was the best beer I have ever had. It is exactly what I would call my perfect beer. I would take this as my "desert island" beer. Amber pour with a creamy light head. Aroma is full of bourbon, vanilla, caramel, toffee and some notes of white chocolate. The barrel aging of this beer has created a smooth and sensual beer that I LOVED. Caramel, toffee, wood, bourbon, some hop balance and a tiny bit of dryness at the finish. Wow. This is my first 5 rating. ABT_S54 (352) - West Midlands, ENGLAND - JAN 11, 2016
75cl bottle served in a snifter. Pours deep garnet with a very short lived off white film of bubbles. Aroma is pure bourbon with vanilla, coconut, chocolate and any many of sweet delicacies you care to imagine. Taste is upfront vanilla with the thick mouthfeel and complex flavour profile of the standard Old Numbskull but with out the hops and in place a smorgasbord of marron glace, apricots, chocolate, vanilla and a warming alcohol hit but very subdued and not overly hot. Perfectly judged and all flavours complement each other whilst being powerful they are never overpowering. So mellow and smooth but at the same time a real sipper and one to savour (which at this price is a blessing in disguise). Perfect barley wine. Karol (939) - SLOVAK REPUBLIC - SEP 27, 2016
Tapped at the epic Alesmith barrel aged beer tasting room. Dark brown color, red orange when flash lighted. Beige thick head. Taste is epic refreshing fruity plums strawberry cherries grapes. Finish is epic dry tabaco cigar like taste. Impressive! I have never tasted a cigar in a beer. Epic. Overall mind blowing! MadIndian (2743) - Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 14, 2008
UPDATED: MAY 18, 2008 Damn, Bought from ebay and sampled with Stegosaurus. Damn this was awesome, Caramel and oak aroma but this may be the smoothest barley wine I ever had. Excellent, nut and vanilla wood flavor. Perfect blend. Bottle #178 of 208

Not a bad thing to say about this barely wine. Its super smooth medium bodied and very very good to drink. Full of malted sweetness coated with oaky vanilla in a very long finish JoeMcPhee (9515) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 16, 2010
Bottle 318/448. Deep brown-amber pour with a thick off-white head. The nose is really intense. Rich sweet malts with a bit of light sweet oaky vanilla, some light caramel and cocoa as well. There is a very intense oaky character but there is also a lot of herbal character and a touch of light chewiness as well. The hops have faded in aroma but still lend a kiss of resinousness that accentuates the oak tannins. On the front of the palate it is sweet but restrained. The middle shows more of the malt contribution of the base beer. A bit of sweet candy and a bit of ginger and clove spiciness over a rich caramelly maltiness. There is a little bit of cocoa on the back as well as a bit of vineous flavour. Soft spicy/woody flavour. Complex but balanced with great integration of all of the components. This is what barrel-aged beer should taste like. Really incredible stuff. emartell (352) - Zapopan, Jalisco, MEXICO - JAN 2, 2016
Excelentes notas aromáticas. Destacan los aromas a frutos secos, principalmente pasas e higos. En segunda instancia se perciben notas maltosas y el Bourbon.
Color café ligeramente cobrizo y algo turbio. Cuerpo redondo, Corona de espuma media de baja retención. Carbonatacion baja.

UPDATED: JUL 22, 2006 Bottle#37 of 225: Pour is ruby-amber color with a small light tan head that fades to a halo. Aroma is rich and and barley wine sweet with a hint of bourbon. Flavor starts malt sweet with a touch of bourbon followed by a light hop bite and finishing with a light dry orangy flavor. Palate is rich and smooth and the alcohol presence warms the throat. Another SUPERB AleSmith brew! Check back in about six months to a year, this one can only get better with some more aging. Notes: Brewed in 2002, Barrel aged in 2003 in a used Old Grand Dad barrel, bottled in 2004 and released Dec. 6, 2004.

2002 vintage: bottle #88/225 Nice hazy orangish brown color with a medium off-white head. Very rich vanilla extract, orange zest, oak, over-ripe banana and bourbon aroma. Thick, rich vanilla, banana, bourbon, orange zest, and caramel flavors. Nice dry finish.
