Bottle conditioned.
Caramel and toffee notes abound in this deep copper-colored American Barleywine-style ale alongside toasted malt and a hint of ripe dark fruits. Old Numbskull showcases malt sweetness, intense American hops, and an aggressive bitterness. Extremely well-balanced, the full-bodied mouthfeel and assertive hop profile leads into a deceptively smooth finish. Old Numbskull can be enjoyed now or laid down for years to come.

750 ml bottle into snifter; no bottle dating, but was purchased in late 2011. Pours hazy deep ruby red color with a small dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lasts. Light soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big caramel, raisin, apple, orange zest, floral, brown sugar, pine, molasses, toast, orange rind, brown bread, and floral earthiness. Damn nice aromas good balance and complexity of dark malt and fruity/earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of big caramel, toffee, orange zest, apple, toast, floral, pine, orange rind, brown sugar, brown bread, chocolate, light roast, and floral earthiness. Fair amount of floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, orange zest, orange rind, light fruits, toast, light chocolate, brown bread, brown sugar, floral, pine, light roast, and floral earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic balance and complexity of deep malt and hop flavors; with a nice bitterness/sweetness balance, and hardly any cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and very full bodied with a creamy, slick, and fairly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic well aged barleywine. Fantastic complexity and balance of deep malt and hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering.

Butelkowane 2014. Totalnie w stylu AleSmith - niezwykle słodowe - toffi, karmel, rodzynki i inne suszone owoce, lekkie kakao.

Gott!

Lovely. Hopped and dryhopped - dont know, but its malt richness, deepness is so cosmically well balanced, rounded up with bitterness and hops flavor. Man... one of those beers you regret when its empty bottle. I wonder what is the big difference between this BW and some similar light/dark-to-darker malts combo Wee Heavy?

Piwo bursztynowe z jasno-beżową pianą. W aromacie przede wszystkim suszone owoce, karmel.

Pite w ramach panelu w Carpe Kraft. Na samym początku zachwyca już wygląd. Piana drobnopęcherzykowa oblepia szkło i utrzymuje się do końca picia. Kolor opalizujący, ciemno miedziany. Aromat karmelizowanych owocw daktyle, figi, rodzynki, szlachetny alkohol. Smak jest trochę zaskoczeniem na plus, czuć wyraźnie gorycz ale nie męczącą, jest także słodko wyklejające. Bardzo dobre.

Pours amber, clear, minimal head. Fruits, alcohol, hops, raisins, more alcohol, malts, caramel. Sweet, but than massive bitterness. Full body, extremely oily.

750ml brown bottle. Colour is deep golden/amber, the beige head is thick and full, very sticky and clingy in the glass. Nose has toffee malt sweetness, brown sugar, rich malts, orange. Taste - toffee malts, dark sugar, sponge candy, late hop notes. Late bitterness, lasting malt richness and hop bitterness. The body is full, good carbonation for a heavy beer. Alcohol is well integrated. Hell of a nice beer.

Super sweet aroma with a bit of hops. Flavors provide a combo of fruits, caramel, & citrus hops with a big boozy finish. Ive also had this at a year old, and I think thats where its really at its best; hops recede to allow more of the roasted malts to come thru. Boozy fresh and even boozier as it ages. Exemplary American barleywine.

Sweet aroma of ripe exotic fruits with some resin notes on the decent caramel background. Full bodied but not very sweet, slightly warming, soft carbonation with silky finish. Hops and malts symphony!

Brown and slight orange tinge with a very dense thin tan head. Smell is incredible, lots of resinous hop oiils and dark fruitiness, cigar, a deep caramel roast malt. Flavour is huge, tons of caramel malt sweetness, packed with hop oiliness, end of having a slight bitter aftertaste. Hops are very earthy and rich, very full bodied and warming. Incredibly decadent, wonderful beer!
