COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We often use Speedway Stout as a jet-black canvas for homages to things we hold dear, whether it’s artisan coffee, a favorite edible or sumptuous flavor combination. The most recent variation of our celebrated imperial stout honors the culinary character of the Hawaiian Islands by combining the lush sweetness of coconut with vanilla and Ka’u coffee. Named after the region of Hawaii from which it hails, Ka’u is produced from some of the world’s rarest coffee beans. Slow-grown beneficiaries of nutrient-rich volcanic soil and idyllic climate, Ka’u offers nuances of caramel and hazelnut plus a soft floral character, all of which marry seamlessly with natural sweetness from the vanilla and coconut as well as Speedway Stout’s inherently rich, chocolaty character. Say aloha to something truly exceptional and evocative of its namesake isles.

Black pour with a dense creamy khaki head. Tight lacing. Aroma is milk chocolate, vanilla, and toasted coconut. Taste follows the nose with some addition black coffee notes. Sweet and decadent. Nice layers of flavor. Full sticky body.

Pours a deep brownish black on tap with bubbly tan head that dissipates to leave light lace. Aroma is big on the coffee, sweet chocolate and mild caramel, light earth, no coconut to speak of. Taste has a subtle hint of the coconut, but mostly coffee, earth, and a touch of fruit. Booze is well hidden, thick and chewy, a great stout, but not much on the coconut for me.

On tap at Three Cellars during their Black Friday releases. Almost black pour. Coconut, dark and chocolate malts. Caramel. Roast. Nice! Taste much more espresso & coconut focused. Some chocolate, a touch of cherry. some alcohol. Not as smooth as some of the variants. Tasty and strong. Finishes slightly to the bitter side of bittersweet. As ever with Alesmith, solid-good. 15

Alesmith, San Diego. Modest head, thin lacing ring. Dark and shiny black brown. Least head amongst the speedways im trying here today. Decadent, rich nose of sweetened dark chocolate with a coconut edge. Nose of a mounds bar, really. Similar first sip. Booze presents as a spicy note, but the robust creamy and full body balances this perfectly. Lightly sticky, but not even approaching too sweet. Great bite. Lovely beer.

Tap @Beer Temple, Amsterdam.
Tiny beige head, actually just a ring, very dark brown colour. Aroma: cocoa, vanilla, coffee, dark chocolate. Lightly sour taste with dry/coffee aftertaste. Full body, thick, long finish, soft carbonation. Amazing!

Wow. Aroma is rich, malty and refreshing. Beautifully balanced. Lot of fruity coffee, chocolate, licorice. Coconut. Big body, smooth and rich mouthfeel. Flavour is very smooth and coffee-centred. Some chocolate, some slight coconut nuances, very balanced. Liked this as much as the regular speedway stout. Brilliant.

(Tap sample @ CBC 2016 Blue Session, Copenhagen) Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of pretty intense, earthy and pungent coffee beans, a bit of coconut, a lot of burnt grain, unsweetened chocolate, really rich, almost smoky roasted character. On the tongue, a little bit sweeter with the coconut coming through more clearly, as do the malts. Notes of chocolate covered coffee beans, coconut, semisweet brewed coffee, fairly roasty grains, pretty big bitterness that builds and builds to the point that the finish is bone dry and very bitter, coffee character edges towards green pepper in the aftertaste. Medium full and creamy with fairly low carbonation. Another really nice Speedway variant, I thought I'd get a little more of a clear sense of the different additions but it mixes together pretty thoroughly.

Pours dark brown, almost black, with tan frothy head. Aroma of coffee, brown sugar, sweet vanilla, dark chocolate, very slight coconut note. Flavour starts with dark chocolate, brown sugar, roasted malts, vanilla, some dark fruits. As it warms there it is a slight hint of coconut, but unfortunately very subdued. I wished I had had this fresher just for an extra kick of coconut. Anyway soft carbonation, full body and velvety silky mouthfeel for a very solid after-meal beer.
