We’ve matured our Russian Imperial Stout in premium bourbon barrels for up to one year to create the perfect blend of flavors. Notes of oak, vanilla, and bourbon add another level of complexity to this beer’s already massive flavor profile of chocolate, Ryan Bros. Coffee, and roasted barley. Designed to be enjoyed now or aged in the bottle for years to come, this special release is truly a unique beer that is smooth as it is rare.

750ml bottle - Herring Creek beer tasting

It’s been awhile since I had a beer this stunning. I’ve had the opportunity to have the regular Speedway and it’s always a pleasure to consume, but this is a showcase of what barrel aging can do to an already fantastic beer.

The beer pours out a basically perfect pour. At least a perfect pour to me. Completely black, dense light brown head, long lasting. An aroma just bursting at the seams with depth and complexity. Notes of bourbob, wood, anise, toffee, brown sugar, roastd malts, Tootsie Rolls, malt balls, milk chocolate, molasses...incredible.

The flavor profile echoes the aroma, but the intensity of the flavor is unmatched. Alcohol is much more present in the flavor (as expected) than the aroma, but even then it mixes well with the other flavors. Everything is so damned well balaced it’s amazing. Mouthfeel is oily, creamy, dense. The beer just coats and clings to the glass and mouth like no other beer I’ve had before.

Simply put, this beer has everything that I want and look for in an imperial stout. It’s created amazingly well, and the time it spent in the bourbon barrel worked incredibly well. I cannot recommend this beer, if you can find it, enough.

Bottle. Viscous black with a brief tan head. Oak, dill, smooth chocolate, bourbon and vanilla. Smooth and full.

Tap at Bottlecraft North Park, San Diego, 22nd November 17. Drank this is a hurry followed by a Parabola, as I browsed the store for take away bottles ahead of the final call at 10pm. Pours black, aroma is coffee, bourbon barrel, wood, vanilla. Taste is smooth and rich, not sweet though, bourbon, vanilla, barrel, coffee, lovely if a bit rushed.

Anvil and Stave, San Diego. Heavy sip, lots of lovely peat flavors highlighted by extra bourbon vanilla barrel. This is a special treat. Thick soap head, nicely poured back in this special room. Woody stain appearance. Touch of oxidation on nose. Sip is boozy, thick and heavy, sweet malt with dark fruit notes. Spicy booze. Thick and delicious. Decadent treat.

Gushing przywitał mnie przy otwarciu! Aromat: wanilia, bourbon, kakao, czekolada, likierowoś i lekka alkoholowa nuta.

Draft at Mon Petit Cafe, Stuttgart. Very classic BBA RIS, there is coffee, some roast and ash, dark fruits, strong barrel notes, really good.

It is not thick enough. It is great on roast to coffee to barrel ratio but it seems too watery. Definitely classic in composition, but the mouthfeel is not sufficient.

Absolutely gorgeous, dark chocolate and coffee and the barrel takes your pants down. Must drink if you can.

Pours dark brown/black with lasting brown lacing. My favorite beer. Super smooth just a touch of bourbon. This is how a barrel aged stout is supposed to taste.
