3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Reminds me a little of chocolate covered cherries with a hint of coffee in there as well.
On tap at Alesmith. Not going to go too much into the appearance because of the small pour, but it was pretty dark and looks like it would have probably had a pretty good head. Aroma has light cherry grenadine with a bit of sourness. There is some milk chocolate in there as well. Sweet grenadine taste and some bitterness to balance. Tastes a bit like those chocolate covered cherries. Not my favorite, but not bad either. hamilton23 (619) - Alpine, California, USA - DEC 24, 2011
On tap at Alesmith tasting room. Pours nearly black with tan head with just a slight reddish hue. Aroma is pretty similar to regular Speedway with just a hint of tart cherry smell. Taste is what you would expect, Speedway with some slight tart cherry. I had high hopes, but it was just OK. danielcurtis81 (1519) - San Diego, California, USA - DEC 23, 2011
Served on tap at the brewery. So glad this lasted a 2nd day. The appearance is a deep rich coffee brown-black. A micro brown head. A great nose with dark cherries, cherry lozenges, and a healthy dose of coffee with some hits of oaky whiskey. The flavors have a rich cherry muddled with espresso and a bit of molten chocolate. The cherry is a very fresh, non-sour cherry. The cherry really pulls the cherry tones out of the rye whiskey with a really nice lighter bodied oak. The whiskey seems to create a bit of a void in the mouth. Something the regular Speedway doesn’t have. The carbonation is pretty low on this as well. Overall a really tasty variation that I hope to have again. peteinSD (1468) - San Diego, California, USA - DEC 22, 2011
On tap at Alesmith. Black pour with an expresso head. Aroma is thick, sweet cherry and soft chocolate (think holiday cherries stewing in sugar and encased in chocolate). I did not get any rye or barrel influence on the aroma - if it’s there it’s buried under the sweet cherry. Taste is dominated by the sweet cherry and chocolate with a light alcohol prick on the finish. Some light barrel influence in the taste but it’s very subtle under the heavy sweetness of the cherry. Really a completely different beer than the regular speedway. Clean and silky mouthfeel. Exceptional cherry imperial stout.

Phone rate. Tap at Alesmith. Looks like Speedway. A little less doughy than the others I’ve had today. Less oxidation than I get in reg BA Speedway as well. Light tart cherries and barrel in the nose. Flavor is fairly sweet with the cheeries, not a ton of spicy booze noted, but def there. Bitterness peaked at a 4, but tempered by the sweetness. Not as creamy as the others, but pretty close. Probably #4 out of the four Speedway treatments I’ve had today. I can’t put a finger on it, but something’s keeping me from loving this.
