Speedway Stouts ominous, pitch-black appearance has become a hallmark of this modern-day classic. Chocolate and roasted malts dominate the flavor, supported by notes of dark fruit, toffee, and caramel. A healthy dose of locally-roasted coffee from Ryan Bros. Coffee, Inc. added to each batch brings out the beers dark chocolate flavors and enhances its drinkability. Despite its intensity, Speedway Stouts fine carbonation and creamy mouthfeel make it very smooth and surprisingly easy to drink. This beer ages very well and will continue to mature for many years to come.

The perfect soundtrack for this beer would be Rufus wainwright: cigarettes and chocolate milk. Decent imperial stout. No fancy pancy - just well made stout.

Bottle at fermentoren Copenhagen. Pours pitch black with a light tan head. Amazing aromas of lots of coffee, roasted malts and milk chocolate. Such a sweet and balanced aroma. Taste is more bitter, like dark chocolate and coffee. Full-bodied and kinda creamy with low carbornation.

Pours dark brown but in the glass appears pitch black with a creamy tan head. Aroma is deep chocolate, coffee, roasted malts and a hint of licorice. The same in the mouth: coffee forward with dark chocolate, toffee, some dark fruits, hints of vanilla and licorice. Full body and creamy mouthfeel. So satisfying! So warm! So good!

Personal rating #5656. 25.4oz foiled bottle, BOTTLED ON 01/27/16 (or 07/27/16, hard to tell). Nose strongly of chocolate and coffee, also tries to fill the room with the scent of alcohol. Pour is very dark brown thats not completely given over to the dark side but that collects as just sub-pitch in the glass, head is large and fluffy-rocky tan. Taste very sweet and very fruity, lots of red berry with plum, black currant, outright grape, and cherry. That fruit ester profile combined with fine mouthfeel reminds me of Belgian yeast at higher temps, sort of fresh Rochefort, but Im not sure it adds in what should otherwise be a sledgehammer of a beer. Chocolate, coffee, and licorice are the supporting base while the fruit just runs wild on top. Skips over the roastier and earthier notes though and permits only a thin, wispy bitterness. Super sticky lips and a light body (!?), warmth and fine/delicate burn in the throat, still too much alcohol showing roughly even if by intent; a dessert beer, subtle caramel and developing scorched notes behind the sugar, crme brle tinted dark. Its overrated for sure (seriously, Californians, this isnt any better than the boozers from Southern Tier), but still a treat. [2016.12.24: 3.7]

From the black foil wrapped 750 ml. bottle. Deep, black colored pour under a modest tan head. The head fades. The aroma is full of rich dark sweet malts, coffee-like characters, fig, prunes, dark bread, char, and a low but earthy hop profile. The 12% alcohol is almost invisible. Full, smooth body. The flavor is about as good as it gets and I gave it a "10" with all those dark sweet roasted malts, dark fruits, integrated alcohol, and slightly biting dry bitterness to finish. I can see why this gets 100 out of 100 although Im not prepared to go quite that high. But it is quite an amazing beer. It ran me about $15 for the bottle.

Purchased a bomber a couple of weeks ago. Pours black and thick with a creamy head and looks wonderful. It smells like licorice and prunes, and first taste is creamy, thick. Coffee is an aftertaste, vanilla cream, cookies. This is an awesome beer, same as Rasputin and Narwhal, but different.
