Speedway Stout’s ominous, pitch-black appearance has become a hallmark of this modern-day classic. Chocolate and roasted malts dominate the flavor, supported by notes of dark fruit, toffee, and caramel. A healthy dose of locally-roasted coffee from Ryan Bros. Coffee, Inc. added to each batch brings out the beer’s dark chocolate flavors and enhances its drinkability. Despite its intensity, Speedway Stout’s fine carbonation and creamy mouthfeel make it very smooth and surprisingly easy to drink. This beer ages very well and will continue to mature for many years to come.

Finally tried this beer poured from a large bottle purchased in San Diego into a small beer-tasting glass. The beer had a thick, syrupy, viscous black body with an average-sized, creamy, dark tan had with tons of cling, great lacing and good retention. The beer had a strong coffee hops aroma with roasty chocolate and caramel malt notes, along with a lighter earthy and grainy hops blend with touches of molasses. Its taste had a rich malty coffee effect with a light sweetness, and a mostly-bitter after-effect with a presence of alcohol and touches of roasted chocolate and caramel. The body had a syrupy texture and was very thick with a filling mouthfeel, low carbonation, and was quite intense and dense with a heavy body. Great beer, shared over Colonia Nights.

Jet black with small espresso head. Nose is medium roasted coffeee, cocoa nibs, vanilla, dried plums, coffee liquor. Taste is sweet and malty. Upfront there are notes of coffee and cocoa. Towards the end the coffee notes intensify and combine with a delicate boozy warming. Amazingly smooth for such ABV. While gently present, alcohol is very well hidden. Sticky mouthfeel, low carbonation. Just great.

Jet black pour with a massive chocolate latte head. Nose is cocoa, dark chocolate, vanilla, coffee, hazelnut, raisin. Really smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Taste is initial malty and coffee bitterness, then vanilla sugar, dark caramel, a faint hint of bourbon whiskey. Finish is bittersweet with a little earthy hops. This beer is just unbelievably smooth and drinkable for 12% abv. Really great stout.

Piana średnio wysoka, brązowa, niezbyt trwała, redukuje się poziomu obwoluty wokół kieliszka. Zostawia lacing. W aromacie bardzo dużo kawy i czekolady. Czuć nuty pralin belgijskich i odrobinę alkoholowości. W smaku wyjątkowo gładkie i kremowe. Wybitne czekoladowe i słodkie. Czuć również kawę i delikatny karmel. Byłoby idealnie gdyby nie przebijający delikatnie alkohol. Gęste, likierowe, nisko nagazowane. Bardzo dobre!

Aroma is roasted malts, toffee, licorice and coffee. The palette is intense caramel, tossed oats, fig and espresso. The transition is to a slight earthiness and creaminess. Slight alcohol and warmth on end but not as harsh as I expected . Appearance is a jet back body with a thin beige head that retains OK.

750mL bottle. Pours black with a small light tan head. Aroma is coffee, cocoa, alcohol, sweet malt, and a little vanilla. Taste is coffee, caramel, light vanilla, roast, and a little cocoa. Good amount of booze on the tongue. Full body. Soft carbonation. Creamy, rich mouthfeel.

Just perfect. Dark and creamy without being overwhelming or too heavy. The palate hits you but also doesn't overwhelm. The coffee is delicious and pairs well with everything. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

One pint can into tulip. From World’s End, Hobart. Super viscous black beer with thin tan head. Pours like motor oil from a can. Aroma is mild coffee, cocoa, and distant chocolate. Intense solid mouthful of flavour. Oh, wow. Overwhelming in it’s initial boozy richness. After I’ve settled down a bit I notice toffee, raisins, cocoa, dark chocolate and late Irish coffee. Really sticky in the mouth and the glass. It’s great but my dislike of coffee stops me rating it higher.

Pours out like a stream of Castrol GTX, thick creamy caramel head bubbles away on top of a beautifully dark slick of beer. It is so rich it shocks the senses, strong in coffee, intensity of a liquor. It stings the tongue a little but each sip the complexities reveal themselves, a wonderfully sticky malt, burnt toffee and luscious treacle, boy this is a head spinner, take it slow.
