bottle courtesy of ksurkin, thanks! pours black with a nice spongy brown head that fades quickly. aroma is very sweet and earthy, lots of spices and vanilla, hints of bourbon even in this one. the taste is cloying sweetness at first, bit the finish and aftertaste make up for it with a really nice blend of flavors. the aftertaste is dry and bitter butter, which is nice after the cloying. nice progression of sweet to bold to bitter, all with a meduim full creamy body. good stuff, goes down easy. bomber - bottle 288 of 2009; big thanks to ksurkin as this was part of a big porter trade; cracked at the HOTD dock sale; pours clear dark cola brown with thin tan head; lots of dark fruit, vanilla and chocolate cookies; drinks with sugary sweetness, brown sugar, caramel and coffee; nice roasted malts with yummy sweet coffee; bone dry finish; very impressive brew and I enjoyed this much more than their bourbon barrel impy porter; would love to get another bottle of this one; thanks Ken!! Pours a perfect black with an ample olive green head. Aroma is chocolate chip cookie malt with hints of dark yeast dough in the background. Flavor is straight-up raisin chocolate with bitter coffee grounds and milk chocolate bits. Nice, chewy mouthfeel. Pretty good brew.
Bottle… October ‘09 O-Town Throwdown!…Pours very dark and sits almost black in my glass with no head. Standouts in the bouquet are chocolate, charcoal and alcohol. Full-bodied and creamy with dancing carbonation. Flavorwise, dark chocolate and modest acidity are the main players. Finishes chocolaty and tangy. Bottle courtesy of TheCheeseMan!

22 oz. bottle from Grape & Gourmet (bottle 1169 of 2007). Pours black with a tan head. Dark fruit, chocolate, and brown sugar aroma. Slick mouthfeel, but a slightly chalky texture as well. Tastes of prune and raisin which fades into baker’s chocolate and smoke. Lingering chalky dark chocolate flavor; alcohol barely noticeable. A great beer. ksurkin (1021) - Norfolk, Virginia, USA - SEP 16, 2009
UPDATED: OCT 25, 2009 bomber #1229 from grape & gourmet. pours an oily thick, deep, dark brown with a thin, dark tan head and a great ring of lace. aroma is excellent with huge notes of brown sugar and toffee, dark fruit notes of fig and prune, and touches of chocolate and wood. flavor is great as well with big, dark roasted malts, sweet toffee, slightly sour dark fruit notes, bitter chocolate, and a touch of smoke and coffee on the finish. palate is full bodied and silky smooth with great carbonation and well integrated alcohol. overall, a damn nice imperial porter.
