22oz bottle sent to me in trade. 100/2007. Rich chocolate looking pour with minimal head. The aroma is rich with coffee, toffee, and roasted grains. The aroma is in no way misleading about the flavor. Roasted grains, coffee grounds, a touch of cola and chocolate. Very rich. Full bodied with a slick mouth feel. Did I mention that I thought this was a “rich” brew. I’m not sure I got that across;-) Hophead22 (2879) - Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA - JAN 11, 2009
22oz bottle #1691 of 2007, from Swolf3, another big thanks to Steven. Dark black pour with a nice brown head. Sweet aroma of vanilla, toffee, some dark fruits almost bourbony. Sweet flavor as well with previously mentioned smells, also some dark chocolate bitterness. This was very good, I could see this being outstanding in a barrel. Bottle (1050 of 2007) received from Captain Cougar, thanks Tom: Extremely dark near opaque hue with an initial creamy tan head which left spotty lace upon the glass. The aroma has notes of molasses, toffee, prune, anise, hints of chocolate and coffee along with a dose of resiny hop vapours. The taste does not disappoint where the porter characteristics are there in full force, Lots of molasses and dark fruits work with a hop and espresso bitterness. The alcohol is there but adds to the palate by cleaning up the sweeter malts and sugars. There is some sourness towards the finish which is a tad distracting but goes away quickly enough. The mouth feel is quite lush for the style but it is also quite aggressive around the edges. This is a very well done big porter, Mikey Likey. badnewsbeers (2312) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - MAY 25, 2010
Pours black with beige head. Aroma of huge caramel, dark bitter chocolate, roasted coffee, and milk sugar. Flavor or a heavy Baltic porter. All the usual qualities. Roasted coffee beans and cocoa are massive. Cream and alcohol in the finish. The apparent alcool flavor at the end is its major flaw Odde (308) - Tampa, Florida, USA - JUL 23, 2010
Bottle shared at a Tampa crew tasting 7-22-2010. Very dark body. Bitter chocolate, coffee and roasty goodness. Solid porter.

Draft. Pours medium black, lively carbonation, spotty lacing. Nose is cocoa, florals, tar, smoke, coffee, earth. Flavours are very chocolatey and toffeeish, plus earth, tar, spice, very balanced, long finish. Elwood (3336) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - AUG 23, 2013
Serving: 22 oz. bottle from Total Wine Sterling. It pours a very dark brown with a small tan head. The nose sweet with a little vanilla, roasted malt, and a hint of chocolate. The flavor leans towards the sweet side as well. The roasted malt and chocolate balance each other out. A light dried fruit note emerges as the brew warms. Medium to full body with softer carbonation. A delicious offering from Alewerks. Luvystypotables (1967) - Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA - MAY 30, 2016
A great aroma of chocolate and raspberry with a hint of malt. Pours a dark black color with a taste of raspberry, chocolate and sweet malt. Medium body, with a sweet chocolate finish. Braudog (6719) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - DEC 31, 2007
Number 22 oz offering #355 of 2007 from up the road in Williamsburg. Dark, dark brown with a hint of reddish tinge. The aroma is sweet and robust, full of brown sugar, enough to attract any hummingbird. This has an almost wicked bite of woodsy, roasty caramel, almost coffee-like. This is delicious and I look forward to the oak-aged version. (#3262, 12/31/2007) Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 10, 2008
Bomber, #206/2007 thanks to Ken!! Poured deep brown with a whipped, well-retained cap of tan head.. sticky, slowly cascading lacing rolled down the sides of the glass.. beautiful! The aroma was well on the sweet side, with lightly-roasted sweeter chocolates, molasses, and cane sugar.. brown sugar showed itself with warmth.. as did just the faintest hint of toasted coconut which got this another point. The flavor was centered around brown sugar and toasty cocoa.. molasses and singed toffee roll over the sides, and a substantial smoky coffee bitterness emerged at the long, roasty finish. Medium-plus bodied with a long impression on the finish.. balance was solid.. this was a tasty brew!
