Like most bourbon barrel aged beers, the bourbon is too strong here. The aroma is bourbon, chocolate, some roast. The appearance is a deep balck, almost no head. The flavor is bourbon, chocolate, molasses. The finish has some chocolate sweetness, but is mainly bourbon. Very good beer. Again, the bourbon sort of overwhelms everything else. dchmela (3088) - Orlando, Florida, USA - SEP 22, 2013
Growler from The Growler Store. Pours black with a thick creamy head that hangs around for forever. Dry roasted grain aroma with a nicely balanced bourbon barrel compliment. Smooth roasted grain, bourbon, vanilla and oak in the taste with a dark roasted grain bite on the end. Well balanced and tasty brew. jeremytoni (3085) - Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA - OCT 3, 2010
From the tap poured a black color with a good amount of head. Sweet toasted malty flavor with a lingering finish. Bacterial (3074) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - AUG 16, 2012
Draft at ChurchKey in DC. Dark pour with a tan head, big lacing. Nose is oaky, smokey and a hint of bourbon. Mouthfeel is nice, smokiness continues with some fun Belgian spice and just a hint of bourbon. Quite good! PilsnerPeter (3049) - Flushing, New York, USA - MAR 4, 2010
EBF 2010 Session One: Deep brown with a tan film of head. The aroma has mocha, wood, peat, toasted dry oak and some marshmallow character. The flavor is oaky with notes of cocoa, mild coffee, and dry bourbon meshes with a chocolaty presence. Very cohesive flavors and picked up nice dry woody tannins from the barrel. Subtle, complex and tasty.

On tap at the 2013 Capones Black Friday event. Dark brown with a faint dark tan head. Bourbon, vanilla, oak, buttery, yeast, some bittersweet chocolate, bit of fruitiness. Moderate body and carbonation, palate is sweet and somewhat dry, overall felt the combination of the belgian stout with the barrel treatment was just a little too much and didn’t work for me. O well. NOB. Black pour with a nose of Vanilla and bourbon. Mild wood taste with a chocolate roast taste. Finishishes with a dry earthy bourbon splash.
