Sampled at FoBAB 2010. Dark brown/blackish pour. Tan head. Aroma is bourbon, chocolate mousse, some wood and vanilla. Flavor is very smooth, nice bourbon notes with a bit of oak. Somewhat salty. Nice mouthfeel. Alcohol not to prevalent. overall, excellent.

On tap at Cask Republic, New Haven. Stillish black pour, very oily but somehow a bit thin-looking. Nose was very sharply boozy, which initially put me off given its distance from what I enjoyed about the regular Allagash Black. But beyond the nose, the beer was more mellow, balanced, and enjoyable. Body suffered a bit from the lengthy aging, I reckon, as it was a bit thin and overly slick. But the flavor was an improvement, with deep chocolate, espresso, and whiskey blending enjoyably.

On tap at EBF 3/16/13. Earthy and roasty stout with a slightly ashy almost chalky consistency. Bourbon and oak come through as well as the yeasty Belgian phenols and flavors. I love stouts, I love bourbon, but I think the Belgian yeast detracts rather than enhances this brew.

Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma is bourbon forward...not hot...roasty and vanilla notes too. Flavor follows suit...definite bourbon, lt vanilla, roasty and dark fruit notes...just a touch of oak. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is bourbon/vanilla/oak and dry and roasty.

Tap at City Beer in downtown SF-June 2012-pours deep brown almost black with a froathy tan head. nose is sweet foregin stout, with sweet vanilla and oak. WOW! crazy roasty chocolate vanilla flavors, like an ice cream cone! fantastic! rich lush body, especially for this style. never becomes viscus. A fairly complex brew however, i wish i had a bigger sample (6 oz). I was not a fan of City beer-over hyped and over priced!

Tap at Blind Tiger. Pours black with thin head. Nose of chocolate and bourbon. Mouthfeel is oily and creamy. tastes of chocolate, bourbon, plums, figs, earth, vanilla, and cedar. the bourbon adds sweetness but is not overwhelmingly sweet or boozy mess. quite drinkable for the abv

12oz handbottle from hopdog, thanks so much Steve, I love Allagash and it never hurts to have one of their rarer special brews. Perfect beautifal pour, black with a 2 finger tan head. Nose is sweet, with some nice vanilla and a touch of bourbon. Taste is sweet, bourbony and very bitter, a little strange on the mouth. Interesting and glad i got to try it. Thanks Steve.
