On tap at Cask Republic, New Haven. Stillish black pour, very oily but somehow a bit thin-looking. Nose was very sharply boozy, which initially put me off given its distance from what I enjoyed about the regular Allagash Black. But beyond the nose, the beer was more mellow, balanced, and enjoyable. Body suffered a bit from the lengthy aging, I reckon, as it was a bit thin and overly slick. But the flavor was an improvement, with deep chocolate, espresso, and whiskey blending enjoyably. alobar (3918) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 14, 2009

Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma is bourbon forward...not hot...roasty and vanilla notes too. Flavor follows suit...definite bourbon, lt vanilla, roasty and dark fruit notes...just a touch of oak. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is bourbon/vanilla/oak and dry and roasty.
