COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In earlier times, Dawnlander was a nickname for the people of New England—the first Americans to greet the sun each day. To capture the stone fences and roaring hearths of yesteryear, we created this saison. Dawnlander is brewed with our 2-row base malt, rye, oats, and cherrywood smoked malt then hopped with Northern Brewer, Cascade, and Bravo. The resulting saison combines citrus, subtle smoke, and tropical fruit, resulting in a peppery beer that drinks with a flavor reminiscent of grilled pineapple. It’s Maine heritage, made sippable.

Bottle from the brewery. Pours clear gold with a frothy, white head. The nose has lots citrusy hops and pale malts and a little hay. Medium sweet flavour with some grainy, pale malt, some lemon, straw. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Quite clean and tidy on the finish, with further biscuits, lemon peel. Solid.

Tap at Allagash rarities at the stags head. Light cloudy straw colored. Nose is light fruit and touch of funk. Tastes of pear, pineapple, hay, slight smoke, barnyard funk, faint cheese. Light and refreshing. Damn good.

Pours a nice light amber with a finger of eggshell foam. Nice toasted malt and earthy belgian yeast on the nose. Palate is rustic grain with nice layers of spicy pepper, soft pear, unripe pineapple and citrus peel. Great balance and subtleties throughout.

Draft at the King’s head pub. Pours yellow with a white head. Leaves a lot of lacing in the glass. Has some Solid funk notes on the nose. I can’t say I’m getting much of the smoke thing on either the nose or tongue. Finished clean. Fairly subdued compared to most of Allagash’s typical offerings.

On tap at Pangaea. Pours white gold with a huge white head and a mild fruity aroma. There is a delicate wheat malt flavor with a little citrus and a slightly sour finish. An interesting version of Saison.

Draft at Duckworth’s on Park Rd. Hazy golden yellow color, bright white head. Nice aroma of white pepper, dusty haystacks, light perfume, very light sweat. Taste is funky peppery straw with subtle fruit. Highly drinkable. Not sure how I’m the first to rate this, at a sports bar in a southern city. But I’m not complaining!
