COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Émile is aged in foudres that once held Pineau des Charentes, a French aperitif made famous by the man whose name graces this beer’s label. We brew Émile with a blend of 2-row malt, local oats, local raw red wheat, Special B, and Midnight Wheat, then hop with Northern Brewer hops. Émile’s roasty, vinous flavor comes together after it’s been fermented with our house yeast, and then aged in the foudre with Lactobacillus and Pediococcus. The color of mature rosewood with ruby highlights, Émile carries the aroma of black currants and elderberries with hearty, earthy undertones. Notes of both dark chocolate and dates infuse the taste, making for a beer that’s part France, part Belgium, and all Maine.

Bottle (375ml). Reddish brown with tan head. Taste quite a bit of sour cherry and black currant. A little sweetness in the end.

Tap, hazy reddish brown with a medium to larger head. Nose and flavor were wood, dark fruit, bread, dates, and chocolate. Another one that a bit acidic in the finish. Medium bodied with a spice forward close.

500 ml bottle shared by Will. Nice looking red brown pour with some vinegar and tartness but balanced.

My Bottom Line:

Sour cherry fruitiness brings tartness to this otherwise earthy brew full of mushroom flavors and dusty impressions.

Further Personal Perceptions:

-A sheet of foam covers the hazy mahogany.

-The nose is rather stale.

-A certain vinosity is present too.

-Mineral angles are found as well.

-This was disappointing for the price. A rare thing from this lovely brewery.

Bottle.

375ml bottle from Wine & Cheese, If You Please in Hilton Head, SC. Slightly hazy but deep mahogany-chestnut color with a large, lasting light beige head. The aroma is nice and complex, very vinous, with oak, earth, leather, vinegar, prune, black currants, lactic notes. The flavor is medium-tart with a hint of sweetness, somewhat tannic, lots of red wine and dark fruits. Medium-bodied with a rich feel and active carbonation. As usual from the ’gash, this is well done.

I don't like the aroma. It's kinda like medicine. The flavor is sour with the wine. Weird but enjoyable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a bottle. Pours a ruddy-brown and makes a beige head. Aroma is of yeasty, bready, and has a cognac smell. Taste is of tart cherries, raisins, and a bit of spice. Wonderful sour. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
