Allagash Fluxus is so named because it is the first beer brewed in our new brewery. Fluxus marks the change and growth of Allagash Brewing Company, and our passage from the corner of our original building to a new, state of the art brewery. Brewed with Belgian Pilsner Malt and 25% Rye malt, the beer is full-bodied with a spicy, herbal taste. A floral note arises with the addition of Yarrow, which is a flowering plant that was historically used as an alternative to hops. The 10% abv beer is hopped with Warrior and Brewers Gold which impart a subtle bitterness. Finally Fluxus, like all our beers, undergoes a second fermentation, the methode champenoise, by which we naturally carbonate our beer in the bottle.

Blind tasting at Papsoes place, another great session, thanks Henrik! Beer #29: Pours hazy yellow to orange with fully diminished white head. Lime to citrusy hops aroma. Flavour is light caramel malt nicely blended with a delicate citrusy hoppy flavour. Light yeasty touch into the finish followed by a nice lingering hops finish.

Bottled. An unclear amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of fruit - especially peaches. The falvor is sweet mlaty with fruity notes of peaches, citrysy notes of hops as well as light notes of alcohol, leading to a dry bitter finish.

(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of BrianK. Hazy golden with an off-white head. Sweetish herbal aroma. Quite full-bodied, sweetish herbal with an abundance of pale malts. Sticky - almost fat texture. Very subdued bitterness with a somewhat astringent, herbal finish. 190408

Hazy amber beer. Dry frothy palate. Immediate vegetable spice that dominates the creamy malt. A bit like ginger but its not ginger! Frothy in the mouth, it finishes dry with some warmth. As so often with Allagash - interesting but not quite inspiring.

Cloudy golden-orange colour. The aroma is herbal, spicy (mint, chamomile, cinnamon) and toasty with breadcrusty malts and rye. Huge herbal character - must be the yarrow - with lots of chewy rye, full maltiness. Big and rounded with a peppery finish. Very unique, well-balanced brew with accents of both Belgium and gruit. Impressive effort, muddled only by a slighlty overt yeastiness.

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2008 750 mL bottle shared by TheBeerGod at the 2008 Richmond Summer Gathering in Williamsburg. Thanks Mike! Amber color with a quickly disappearing medium-sized head. Big earthy and herby aroma. Notes of caramel, citrus, cereal, bubblegum and alcohol. Taste is very herbal... lots of woodiness and spice. Medium body with some thin spots.

(750ml bottle) Pours a cloudy orange body with a small off-white head. Aroma of orange peel, black pepper, corn starch paste, sour dough, some dried basil, and other herbs/floral notes (mostly what I expect is yarrow). Flavor of citrus, light floral (yarrow?), butterscotch, yeasty, and some dried tangerine.
