a thick brew the color of copper gutters carrying a deep molten haze like the blazing moats of perdition. head is composed of a tan legion of very small but individualistic bubbles--in other words, they can’t quite collectively manage a creamy froth, but merely pile up like so much salmon roe. gently spiced aroma with tangerine zest and dried fruits, perfumy caramel bread pudding, with supporting notes of almond and graham cracker crust. flavor is sweet with a smooth to flat carbonation, a rusty note amid peachy marmalade and raw tea leaves, all backing up to accommodate a cheeky hop bitterness that carries some delicate evergreen pollen. alcohol? what alcohol? (hic). very elegant gustatory performance. WISEGUY572 (1377) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 1, 2002
Clear golden. Malt, banana, orange, followed by clove and coriander and hop. Very drinkable, very pleasant. urbnhautebourg (997) - Annapolis, Maryland, USA - DEC 1, 2002
Beautiful Belgian spice and swell alcohol in the nose with a full body and perfectly complimentary malt flavor. So wonderfully balanced, with all the right Belgian flavors. A real pelasure. booyaatribe (450) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 30, 2002
Not quite as delightfully quirky as some Belgian ales, but this one has all the right flavors. The best American belgian-style I’ve had. BeerLimey (2154) - California, USA - NOV 28, 2002
Sweet caramel malts in aroma and taste form a pretty strong base. Herbal spice and pepper on the nose, but not quite so strong on the palate.

Spicy flavors, very well balanced, deep amber in color, soft lacy white head, medium bodied, excellent seasonal beer

Darker golden color and smoothier taste than I expected. CaptainCougar (7133) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - NOV 19, 2002
Bountiful coriander and orange peel aroma emanating from the brownish body. Lots of spice in the body, coriander maybe even some nutmeg. Alcohol is very well hidden and the finish is dry and hoppy. A delectable mix of flavors, but I think this beer would be better suited in the Spice/Herb/Vegetable category. loweredsixth (946) - Clovis, California, USA - NOV 16, 2002
Nice sweet caramel aroma. After it warmed a little it gave off a fruity, sweet, slightly bitter aroma. It had a complex flavor...a blend of orange, caramel, malt, bitterness, sugary, peppery tones. Very enjoyable brew. Hopistotle420 (1178) - Amherst, Massachusetts, USA - NOV 15, 2002
Ruby amber colour, hazy. Lots of carbonation, white head, lots of lace. Coriander, fruit, spice nose. Very smooth, medium bodied, coriander and cardamon all the way, peppery bite, but stays sweet and smooth til the end. Like venom says, there definately is a powdery feel to the body. Very nice, terribly drinkable and warming.
