Hazy copper color. Slight head that fades pretty quick leaving a little lace.Citrusy, spicey nose, coriander?Citrus flavor orangey.Above average mouthfeel. Gettin some toasted malt aromas as it warms up.Feels kinda silky on the tongue.Carbonation is just right. Good brew! Jake Barnes (456) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - NOV 14, 2002
Re-Rate 11/14/02 I got a TON more ginger/cinnamon/cardamomin the flavor of this years batch. The body is a bit thinner than i remembered. No as much fruit either. Still quite good.
Dark body. Huge head with decent retention. Just a fantastic aroma. Flavor starts out very fruity and full then finishes dry and long with a bit of peppar. Excellant. Rockinout (966) - Kent, Ohio, USA - NOV 2, 2002
Reddish orange brown color. Spices are mellow and nice. Unique beer, I haven’t had anything quite like this. Crisp, medium bodied, spicy fruit grape-like taste. Hops in the finish. Jokes (1453) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 25, 2002
Batch #2: I found this to be very nice. Nice tart fruit flavors of granny smith apples, grape and dark fruit. Also a fair amount of spice complement nicely. Very nice. austinpowers (2828) - San Francisco, California, USA - OCT 22, 2002
Magnificent! Although I haven’t liked the other Allagash brews I’ve tasted, this one’s in a league of its own. Terrifically spiced, like a delicious vienna lager more than a Belgian brew. Slightly herbal.

UPDATED: JAN 5, 2007 Corked version is superior to its 12 oz. counterpart. (12 oz.) Points deducted for turning watery with age. Oh boy. How rare it is to sample a Grand Cru from the states! Aroma is full of coriander, and figs, toasty malts linger forever with some grand ol’ spiciness. One of the longest finishes I have ever enjoyed. Undertones of toast and caramel. At just over $12 a six pack, I am jumping for joy. This beer is the perfect match for the wine cellar. Thank God for these brewing gurus! One of my favorite breweries. estoppel (1028) - Buffalo, New York, USA - OCT 9, 2002
Tawny amber body, offwhite head with lacing, spicy nose. Sweet, mildly spicy, slightly peppery. daboskabouter (1470) - Fergus, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 9, 2002
Dark orange color. Huge aroma of hops, and rich malt which lends to notes of grape, alcohol also trying to break through. Surprisingly hoppy body with a good sweet malty backbone. Nice amount of dark fruit and finishes with hints of yeast and bitter hops. Very nice beer, but suffered from too much hops. jayme9874 (756) - Hamburg, New York, USA - OCT 8, 2002
UPDATED: JAN 15, 2003 Re-rate Deep reddish amber. Beautiful head and lace. This is strange but smells exactly like a lilly(get em for my girl alot, they smell up the whole room). I also get hints of malt, fruits and spices. Nice, almost toasty malt backbone. Berry fruitness, wonderful pepper and corriander spicyness, creamy mouthfeel with a long, sweet, spicy aftertaste. Very complex and very tasty. I appreciate much more the second and third time around. A damn good brew. GregL40 (97) - Massachusetts, USA - SEP 28, 2002
Foamy head with an airy aroma. Loose texture. Can’t put my finger on the flavor. The 7.2% ABV was nicely masked.
