Oddly enough, I rate this beer at a 4 even though I rate the aroma, appearance, taste and palete lower (mid-scale). You have to understand something about this beer BEFORE you drink it. If you don’t you will lose all respect for what the brewer was trying to accomplish. First, let me say that you will be overwhelmed by a fierce acidity in bitterness, tartness and absolute vinegar essences. DO NOT LET THAT THROW YOU. I was privy to a tasting with a rep from the brewery who prepared us for the experience and I can say that without that, I would have pitched it in the sink claiming it to be rancid. However, much like a good balsamic vinegar, this beer does have characteristics of its own to be appreciated. Yes, I said vinegar, and a little salty but once past that, you do taste the berry and raisin and malt as well as the contributions the yeast add. Do try this but remember what I said earlier.

Bottle - Always wanted to try this beer, and it was sitting on shelves the last time I was in Boston. Such is the cyclic nature of desired beers--which is good for me. It's beautiful--barely any head at all but a lightly hazy rose color. Nose is seedy raspberry with a dry sulfury note and some jammy sweetness. Oak under it all. Lovely. Taste is gentle, with the light buttery oak blending well with the raspberry jamminess and subtle funk. A little lemony citrus, but this is a super approachable sour. The carbonation bites a bit, but overall this beer is fantastic. A recent fave for sure!

Bright expressions of rose water, champagne raspberries, candied sugar and bay laurels made the rounds willingly. A zesty tart-sweet fruit beer that kept giving me ChapStik punches imbibing during the mid-palate. Not as sweet as I was led to believe.
Raspberries stems a noticeable characteristic minutes after gulping. Likeable.

Pours a hazy pink from the cork and cage bottle with bubbly white head that dissipates quickly to leave little to no lace. Aroma of big lactic acidity, mild funk, big raspberry, and musty oak. Taste is even bigger on the raspberry and acidity, funk is mild, lingering must, a hint of booze. Very nice.

Bottle into a snifter showing moderately filtered grapefruit pink with sparse white foam. The nose shows strong tart and acetic notes of raspberries. Just the intensity of the nose could keep you busy. The palate is moderately tart and highly carbonated. Highly tart with flavors of hibiscus and rose petals throughout. Juicy fruit raspberries on the mid palate. A little too tart but overall, fantastic.

Draught at Toronado San Diego. Copper color, white head. Sour taste with raspberry, acidic notes, wheat, sour apple, earthy notes and grass. Sour finish with raspberry, acidic notes, wheat, red currant, grass and a bit of sour apples. Excellent sour ale.

[Bottle from HB Provisions] Fresh raspberry aroma with a moderate, clean lactic sourness and a touch of vanilla oak. Hazy orange-red under a quickly dropping white blanket that forms half a collar. Flavour is cleanly sour with a moderate raspberry flavour and only slight raspberry seed astringency. Very low pickle juice note and low sulfur malt accent. Light body, moderate carbonation, mouth puckering.

Bottle at home. Pale pink hued beverage. Nose is rich raspberry pulp, citrus, wood and vinegar. Tastes of raspberry, wine, oak, lemons, vinegar, some mandarin orange and champagne. A touch overly acidic and vinegary but deep flavor and interesting.
