Night of the Funk 2012. Hazy golden color, large white head. Aroma of sour grapefruit. Taste is softly sour summer fruit, straw, dust, funk. Very nice.

Pouring at the Night of the Barrels on the Friday night of EBF 2012. Pours a lightly hazed golden amber with a thin white head. Big funk, light acid, brett. Musky and funky, sour with a touch of acetone. Warm toast, acid and funk. Long acid, sour and nutty acetone.

My Bottom Line:
This stupendous Wild Ale’s pineapples and pine needles thrive in a marvelously classy and effervescent mouthfeel, as oaken wine barrel notes and hushed tartness develop nuance and complexity.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the amber-hued golden.
-The clausenii’s tropical fruitiness goes all the way from pineapple to marinated ginger in the aroma.
-The bubbles are tiny, but they sure are feisty.
-Even though this is quite strong abv-wise, this cousin of Interlude is superbly drinkable.

Tap at Night of the Funk. Very oaky, vanilla, a little strawberry sweetness in the nose. A bit shallow. Pumpernickel grain up front in the mouth, with a milky, lactic flavor. Thin and fluffy. Some notes of guacamole. Seems incompletel, almost. Not up to snuff with some of the other Tripel varieties.

Night of the Barrels at EBF. Hazy vibrant amber with a decent off white head considering it was poured into a sample glass. Dry, bit of grass, grapefruit and brett, got some chardonnay notes and no hint really of alcohol. Decent carbonation and body, definitely sour but not overly so. Quite drinkable.

On tap at EBF. Allagash has sours down to a science! Good balance of tartness, sour funk and sweetness. Could drink pretty much all day, every day.

Golden pour with a medium sized off white head. The nose holds tons of bretty funk, earth, cheesecloth, and hints of grapefruit. The flavor follows with an absolute onslaught of brett infected golden goodness, with incarnations ranging from earthy to cheesy, to funky. Palate is medium bodied with fine bubbled carbonation and a super dry finish.

Sample at NotF. Pours a hazy yellow color with a white head. Nose is brett, a funky cheesy musty note. Palate is fairly carbonated and is full in the mouth. Flavors of light fruit and cheese with a soury finish.
