COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Late this year we plan to release a second beer in the Barrel Aged series... a dark, 10% wheat beer. We have been aging a portion of the beer in New American Medium Toast Oak, and a portion in Stainless steel. We will then blend the beers to taste, and bottle condition. The beer will have spent over 6 months aging in the oak and steel at the brewery!

UPDATED: OCT 16, 2008 Chestnut brown, slight haze. Thin caramel head. Oaky, toasty and chewy, with rich dark fruit notes. There’s a slightly smokey, chocolate note in there. Soft, smokey, chocolatey body with some woody dryness and alcoholic firmness. Complex, distinctive.

Bottle, 75cl corked, 2014 vintage. Shared by bergstaden. A dark reddish brown beer topped by a dense, beige head. Unclear. It’s lightly roasted on the nose, with nuts and toffee, some dark chocolate, the typical Belgian strong ale touch, some cork and cellar and some dark chocolate, roasted oats, some cellar and wood and a faint funky touch. It’s sweet, but there’s enough bitterness to prevent it from feeling cloying. Lasting Belgo-fruity finish with some chocolate hints and cellar and wood hints. Another wonderful beer from Allagash. 151010

Draft @ Oakquinox 2013. Mahogany pour with an off-white head. Some bread and toffee malt aroma. Some dark fruit, spice, and wood. Not terribly sweet and a bit herbal. The flavor is very toasty and heavy on the oak. Mild to moderate malt sweetness of toffee and toasted bread. Spice and herb flavors, yeast, dark fruit, and a hint of smoke.

Corked and caged. January 2008 bottle from Marcus (Thanks once more). Vinous, dark fruit and dark malt aromas. Near opaque brown color with garnet glints. Tan head that went up and stayed for awhile. Medium bodied with creamy/fizzy carbonation. All kinds of flavor. Coffee, maybe dark plum fruit, molasses?, chocolate, some heat, some spice. Takes awhile, but some oak comes forth. Very good in the mouth. Reminds me a bit of Glazen Toren Canaster, in a very stepped-down way - certainly no light fruits here. Maybe it resembles cola a trifle? Seems pretty complicated. A great pleasure to drink.
