Respect my elderberries? More like respect my dingleberries. Which this beer does not. Caused painful constipation. dimenhetfield (2554) - , Florida, USA - JUL 28, 2012
Sampled at EBF. Another home run from Allagash. Not sure what elderberries are suppose to taste like but I sure as hell like them in sour beers. Great fruit flavors and sour tartness to boot. Outstanding. bottleforager (3211) - Gray, Maine, USA - MAY 10, 2012
On draft at Novare Res for Gasharoo.... Pours a bright raspberry red color with a one finger pink head that dissipated very quickly... the nose was very subtle with a little tart berry and hints of funk but as not a fruity bomb on the nose like the color would suggest. On the palate it starts out crisp with a lot of tart cranberry elderberry flavors jumping out, then falling into a sweeter mid palate roundness that was quite pleasant. Its finish rolls out with a nice acidity that is refreshing... and highly addictive ! johnnnniee (4457) - Bedford, New Hampshire, USA - FEB 11, 2012
Poured at EBF on Saturday afternoon.
Pours a solid rose with a pink hue of a head. Smells tart and funky with a nice sweet fruit edge. I smell what I think is a raspberry type aroma, but honestly I don’t think I’ve ever had elderberries. Taste follows the aroma but piles on a fair amount of vinegar that is a bit off putting. Medium body with a spirited level of carbonation and a tart puckering mouthfeel. Aside from the salad dressing aspect I thought this was a pretty good brew. On tap at The Publick House in Brookline. Deep dark ruby/purple body with a tall pink foamy head. Nose has lots of sweet berry notes and just a dash of bretty/dusty undertones. The body is thin, lively and very composed. The carbonation is very up front on your lips while the sourness and bitters really sink into my tongue. Flavors are off the charts delicious. Super tart fresh berries (never had an elderberry before but compared to blackberries and pomegranate flavors) that still hold lots of the skin bitterness but have the depth of sweet juicy jam. The brett notes really mesh well with the bitter notes of the berries and let the beer finish with a dry bitter sour flavor get had me begging for more and more.
This was absolutely outstanding.

Pouring at the Saturday afternoon session of EBF. Pours a clear garnet with a thin pink head. Soft berries and fruit, light funk. Big berries, tart acid. Lots of big bright acid. Deep sour notes with a generous amount of tart berries, tannic skins.
