To create Victoria Ale, the brewers drew on references to Bucchus, the Thracian god of wine, in the history and artwork of the Victoria Mansion as inspiration for this new beer. One hundred pounds of chardonnay grapes were brought in, crushed on site and added directly to the mash. With a focus on the subtle wine-like character of the grapes, the 9.0% ABV brew boasts a pale copper color, Belgian yeast influence and a medium body with a long finish.

For every bottle of Victoria Ale sold, Allagash Brewing Co. will donate $1 to the restoration of this historic building.

We bottled it in February of '06. 451 cases (6 bottles in each case) were bottled.

The Allagash folksare looking over my shoulder as I write this, si I have to be careful. Fortunayltely tje beer is really good, so I can be truthful. Draft. Cloudy golden color, thick white head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of floerws, perfume, dusty hay. Taste is slightly sour lemon bread, straw, light spice. Very nice.

Cloudy orange - amber beer. Dry crisp palate. Low carbonation. Not sure what this beer wants to be! Mild malt with an underlying spice, a little orange citrus and somewhere in there is a peep of grape freshness. Okay but was hoping for so much more from this beer!

Papsoe (25056) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAY 20, 2007
(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of Rastacouere. Hazy, amber golden with an off-white head. Subdued aromas of fruit and yeast. Medium body with a very high carbonation, yeast and fruit and then nothing much more. Not pleasant. 090507

Bottle at the Funky 7, Brooklyn. Pours a cloudy, orange gold with a medium, white head. Big nose of yeast, banana, Belgian candi. Medium sweet flavor, some signs of age but I like ’em, citrus, spice, yeast. Medium to full in body with fine to average carbonation. Light warming finish, notes of white grapes, yeast, spice, fruits. Delicious beer. Has held up very well and this was just a joy to drink.

Bottle at Papsoe pre-KO tasting. Hazy orange/amber colour. Yeasty and slightly spicy aroma. Quite fruity flavour but I didn’t realise it was made with grapes. Smooth mouthfeel. However, I found it rather sweet and tending towards sticky. There’s a touch of late acidity to provide some balance, but not enough for my taste.

Koelschtrinker (21492) - K?ln (Cologne), GERMANY - JUL 6, 2011
Test vom 11.9.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 8,8,9,8,7,8 - 8,10

harrisoni (19338) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - SEP 17, 2007
Bottle at LCRBM3. Cloudy orange/gold, lasting thin white head. Slight sour and hop aroma. Some medicinal character. A golden strong ale with an odd chalky medicine quality to it.
