341ml bottle. [Vintage 2016] Pours a clear red-brown with a thin, tan head that leaves spotty lacing. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, overripe fruit and alcohol. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, overripe fruit, brown sugar and a hint of oak with warming alcohol in the finish. Medium body with a sticky, oily texture and soft carbonation. A pleasant surprise. 355ml bottle, a screw-top bottle of all things which is sumpthin’ I don’t appreciate on a barley wine of all things - like, chug! chug! chug! Is that the barleywine motto? Nah, didn’t think so. Has minimal head and dark ruby clear colour. Candy, rosewater, toffee on the nose. Flavour is thick caramel with candy sugar molasses hints. Alcohol is not present, so a point for that. Very pancake-syrup like, kinda if you mixed Aunt Jemima with a few shots of vodka.... hey, that’s giving me ideas if I’m hard up for booze or barleywine at 3am and the craft beer store is closed. Must investigate....

Murky deep brown pour, thin dark head with little retention. Aroma of big malt, toffee, brown sugar, dark fruit, and some alcohol. Taste is is sweet heavy malt. Rating #1429 08.01.2015 - Beer #12 in @beerblast #Beermas. Amber pour with a bubbly tan head, decent retention. Aroma is brown sugar, caramel malt, alcohol. Low-medium carbonation, explosive alcohol warmth and depth. Palate is a whirlwind of malty sweet, and boozy alcoholic notes, mild astringency, mild bitterness that lingers into the finish. Very nice. Bottle traded with TimE about 3/4 years ago. Thought I’d age this a bit and my has it turned out well. Colour is murky reddish/orange, few bits in it, off white head which dissipates to nothing. Nose is musty grain, barley sugar boiled sweets, burnt sugar/caramel, citrousy blood oranges, bit of grapefruit peel, little yeast extract and slight oxidisation. Taste is musty grain, citrousy blood oranges, grapefruit rind, caramel, barley sugar. Really lovely blood orange character providing bitterness and then softer sugary notes complimenting it. 341 ml bottle shared by DrSilverworm, left over from a tasting. Thanks, Chris & Beau! Pours a clear burnt orange color with no head. But it’s been open for a bit. Notes of tea, brown sugar, toast, caramel, earth, toffee, and some underlying bitterness. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a malty, rich, somewhat bitter and earthy mouthfeel. 11.2 or 12 oz bottle shared by b3shine. Pours a clear dark amber color with a thin off white film. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, caramel, an herbal hop character, fruit, some oxidation, though it says 2015, leans more toward the malty side.
