3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of black licorice. Tastes malty, notes of caramel, roasty, and some whiskey, a bit spicy. Warming mouthfeel. Finishes with a malty (caramel) taste with some spicy whiskey overtones. Interesting...
Bottle shared by the Canadians at RBSG St. Louis. Pours dark brown. Tan head. Nose/taste of Jack Daniels, oak, whiskey, dark fruit and grape. Medium body. DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUN 24, 2014
Just one sip real quick, my first taste of a beer at RBSG. Kept in my head, and recorded my thoughts later. Dark brown color. Decent light brown head, some splotches of lace. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Lightly slick. Good chocolate notes, vanilla barrel influence, toasty. Moderate sweet taste. Solid, tasty stuff, judging from my quick sample. kbudd19 (1019) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 19, 2014
Bottle 3 or 4 years old I think. Oily black pour, rich whiskey aroma, lots of oak very nice. Taste, thin, fairly sour, a bit of oak too bad aroma was exceptional. Good effort though. Ferris (16295) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 19, 2014
Bottle - Vintage 2011 - Boozy dark bourbon notes. Jet black with a good brown head. Thin, boozy and sour bourbon. Very poor aged. DuffMan (10602) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - AUG 19, 2011
Bottle, picked up for me by Parksy. Very cool label art. Pours a quiet opaque walnut brown with a very modest brown flat top. Aroma is very much JD with underlying husky roast. Palate entry is dominated by the barrel traits: lots of rye, vanilla, and wood, with rather weak support from the bitter chocolate and slightly ashy burnt malt. sweet ans slightly boozy, with a tartness in the finish that hints at sourness. Of all AK’s attempt at barrel aging, this is their best effort. Yet the underlying beer once again seems to fall short in the bargain. The carbonation is much better this time, but the balance still isn’t quite there. Keep trying, and I’ll keep buying!

Poured almost black with quickly diminishing brownish head and light lacing. Aroma is whiskey and wood and alcohol. Taste is quite sweet with a strong whiskey and woody finish and mild alcohol. Carbonation and body are average. As far as stouts go, this one is a little thin and whiskey is a little overpowering. gramity (1678) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JUL 4, 2011
Poured a dark, dark black with little to no head. The aroma was pleasant with a sweet touch masked by booze. The taste was similar to the Three Bears Stout with a touch of the whiskey influence. I enjoyed it but would prefer the non-barrel aged stout. VertBaconStrips (2395) - Blerkablerka, VENEZUELA - JUN 13, 2011
Similar to the 3 bears brew by Alley Kat this beer seems to be a weak attempt overall. The taste is rather dull. The aroma isn’t dull. Black brew with a small light brown cap that rings and leaves the odd spot. Strong whiskey nose with plenty of oak, orange, medicinal, roast that hides but keeps this somewhat together, alcohol. Sure, this took a ton of the JD quality but it wiped out whatever stout they used here.. a weak recipe I would have to think as there is not much left. Still, everything here seems off especially when the nose takes a turn for the worse. This isn’t remotely balanced. The taste wafers on drinkable to curiosity to boredom. Plenty of JD, wood, odd vanilla, alcohol, tanginess that I do not want, roast, light light fruit, dulled out malts and maybe watery chocolate. Decent smoothness and light carbonation but this tangy feel is not that great. Rarely rarely does a low % barrel aged anything work and this is no exception. Finishes quite long with a mellow whiskey mouth. Not a bad beer just a boring misflavoured beer. presario (4916) - Stampede City, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 9, 2011
Bottle. Black without head. Thick aroma. Sugar, malt, peat, light alcohol. Weird flavour. Chocolate, gingerbread, brown sugar and JD candy. Scubaguy (230) - Alberta, CANADA - MAY 1, 2011
It pours a total black color with a 1 finger tan head that quickly falls to a thick cap. It has some small spots of lacing.
On the nose I am getting some light roasted notes followed by a little more oak.
The flavor is more subtle than what I was expecting. I am getting some roasted malt, I am picking up some oats which it gives a little creamy feel. Thrown into the mix as well are some light oak and a little warmth from the alcohol.
It finishes with a light sourness that tends to linger a little. I have to say all things said not a bad beer. I sampled this from a sniffer and it did take me awhile to finish it but nice after a hard day.
