COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The second release in our Barrel Noir series blends our Woodford Reserve barrel-aged imperial milk stout with chili peppers, cocoa nibs, vanilla and sea salt, drawing inspiration from the creative cauldron that was San Francisco’s notorious Barbary Coast. This decadent stout balances sweetness with heat and rounds out with the perfect kiss of oaky-Bourbon.

On draft at HopCat. The pour is a decently light black with a thin ring of off tan head and a light soapy lace. The aroma is sweet and milky right up front. There is a nice milky sweetness and some light chili heat to it. There is definitely a light chocolate and a hint of vanilla, but this is like Bomb light. The flavor is similar. The pepper is just a heat and the chocolate and vanilla come through. Good stout, but just a little light. The mouth feel is decent. There is a nice thickness and a softer carbonation to go with a light chocolate and vanilla aftertaste. The pepper rolls in on the back end, but it’s not bad at all.

NikkTwist (3306) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 10, 2016
Draft at Bru Craft. Opaque dark brown pour with a reducing khaki top that forms a lasting foamy ring but no lasting lace. Pleasant cocolate bourbon aroma. Dark cocoa. Sweet, thick, bitter Turkish coffee. Black walnuts. Chipotles. Peppercorns. Vanilla beans. Charcoal grill. German black liquorice. Smooth finish but has a heavy astringent alcohol aftertaste. Impressive.

joeneugs (6371) - Livermore, California, USA - AUG 27, 2016
On tap at Drakes Dealership. It pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma has some walnut brownies with a little bourbon alcohol. Cocoa and raisins in the background. The flavor has raisins, bourbon and walnut brownies. Very little, if any roasted malt which is surprising. Not too hot on the palate. Pretty good.

brokensail (16631) - Dublin, California, USA - AUG 17, 2016
On tap @ Beer Revolution. Black in color with a thin mocha head. Sort of what you would hope for here. Aromas and flavors of cinnamon, vanilla, and dark chocolate. Has a decent spiciness to it, but is perhaps more on the earthy and fruity pepper side. Sweet milk chocolate, some brownie batter, and definitely a fair bit of bourbon.

Aroma: Bourbon, vanilla, dark cocoa
Taste: Loads of bourbon, dark chocolate...a great vanilla flavor comes in at the end with some very mild chili notes
Palate: Thick and chewy
Overall: A big boozy bourbon bomb with one of the better vanilla flavors I’ve had in a beer. Excellent.
