COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Biere de Chocolat celebrates the long and lauded history of chocolate production in San Francisco. Our aim was to create a beer bursting with cocoa flavors and aromas, balancing sweet and savory to create a complex but quaffable chocolate brew. To accomplish this we partnered with Dandelion Chocolate in San Francisco to create this rich brew brimming with chocolate character. Working with the unique flavors of Dandelions single-source beans, we created this decadent beer by layering in smoked and dark-roasted malts with citrusy Ivanhoe hops from Clearlake, CA. Finally, we added a blend of hand-roasted cocoa beans sourced from Madagascar and Ro Caribe, Venezuela. The Madagascar beans add bright berry-cocoa flavors, while the Ro Caribe adds dark chocolate and bourbon notes. A touch of vanilla rounds out the supporting flavors to create an eminently drinkable beer that is a chocolate lovers beer through and through.

355 ml bottle @ Gaasa, May 2014. Black body with a small, dense beige head. Aroma is mainly chocolate with a hint of roast, very delicious and promising. Flavor has dark chocolate, light roasted coffee, vanilla and decent bitterness. Complex within the chocolate specter. Full body and long lasting aftertaste. One of the best chocolate beers I have tasted.

Bottle at home. It pours jet black with a creamy dense beige head. Huge chocolate aroma with vanilla and light orange notes. Light roasted flavor with mainly chocolate and vanilla notes. Bitter malty and chocolate finish.

On tap at 10 East - I am a sucker for a great chocolate beer. The two Sams come to mind when I think of great chocolate beers (Smith with the Organic Chocolate Stout and Adams with the Chocolate Bock). So comparatively speaking, this failed. But on its own its not bad. Way, way to thin for my liking. An aroma of semi-sweet chocolate chip cookies, buttered toast and light vanilla. The flavor is strange...there is some light chocolate found, but its very tea like...herbal, some dust...like a chocolate tea w/o any body. I really enjoyed my last Almanac beer, but this was lacking.

Bottle at Hall Toll, Stavanger . Pours clear dark ruby with a small tanned head. Aroma is intense chocolate, vanilla , cocoa and weak roast, lovely. Taste is moderate sweet, more clean dark chocolate, cocoa and sleek vanilla, creamy half oily mouthfeel ,lovely for the sweet tooth amongst us.

This beer has been sitting in my fridge tempting me for months. Pours dark chocolate with appropriate amount of dark tan head. Scent is like a mocha coffee. Flavor goes sweet to mildly bitter. Thickish with medium carbonation. Bottle - Received in Trade

Bottle. Beermoth, Manchester. Clear, very dark, reddy brown. Sticky film of tan head. Cocoa. Light coffee bean. Taste is cocoa dry. Thin, watery palate. Finishes dry, with a light bitterness. Sets off great this one. Lovely chocolate. But lacks any oomph, thereafter. Disappointing.

"Kind of a delicious surprise even though the 2 previous Almanac brews were very solid. Wonderful pungent aroma of chocolate and vanilla, with light roasted malt. Smooth body and texture. Flavor of bakers cocolate, vanilla, light coffee and roast. Lighlty bittersweet. Nice!"
